Your Opportunity

An opportunity currently exists for a Project Manager in our Alberta North Water Team (situated in the Edmonton office) who has a strong technical background in Water-related projects.

The preferred candidate will have a combination of project management and technical skills suited to lead and participate in the delivery of water conveyance and / or water resources projects for municipal and private sector clients.

It is expected that the Project Manager will utilize their knowledge and experience on similar projects to guide their project teams.

The Project Manager will perform a variety of tasks which may include client meetings, financial management, schedule management, coordination of tasks and personnel, technical leadership and mentoring of junior staff.

You will lead project teams in the execution of projects to ensure delivery, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and lead the design as appropriate.

Your Key Responsibilities

Manage client expectations and relationships.

Support marketing and business development activities in positioning for potential projects, writing proposals or technical portions of multidisciplinary proposals, participating in client interviews, and supporting negotiations for project contracts.

Oversee and manage assigned projects. Be responsible for the delivery of projects of varying level of complexity.

Set the priorities for your project teams, including defining their scope of work, budgets and their schedules for completing the work.

Serve as the project's point of contact with clients, agencies and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.

Manage and monitor both the financial performance of budgets and on time delivery performance of assigned projects.

Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews of technical deliverables (e.g. drawings, reports, etc.), including the evaluation of the completed work for accuracy and completeness.

Understand and implement industry standards and manuals as well as client and regulatory agency standards and requirements.

Conduct alternative analyses to support business case evaluations for making project decisions.

Participate and lead in the design as skills dictate to ensure efficient project delivery, and take professional responsibility for deliverables (e.g. Engineer-of-Record).

Implement understanding of discipline-specific construction elements as they relate to design to select construction methods and defining work area limits.

Provide mentoring to other developing project managers, technical staff and engineers-in-training.

Engage in leadership in Professional organizations that align with expertise; write technical papers and delivers technical presentations for conference.

Assist and / or lead the development of proposals and participate in contract negotiation.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Technical & Project skills :

Proven project management experience on water / drainage infrastructure projects.

Collaborative in nature, with ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.

Understanding of all phases of project implementation, and strong understanding of engineering design processes.

Advanced understanding of project management and civil engineering concepts and principles and ability to communicate ideas to others.

Proven technical experience in one or more of the following areas :

Design and construction of potable water transmission mains, gravity sewers (drainage systems) and forcemains

Hydraulic / hydrologic modeling software (collection / distribution systems)

Development of technical specifications and tender documents

Technical report and proposal writing

Design of municipal infrastructure (stormwater management, outfalls, potable water, sanitary, and familiarity with approval processes in Alberta)

Knowledge of relevant codes and standards for the water and drainage industry

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent

Eligible to be licensed as a P.Eng. with APEGA in the Province of Alberta

Minimum of 8 years of consulting engineering experience

Experience with the use of Microsoft Office software suite. Experience with Microsoft Project is an asset

Experience in client-facing roles

Experience in leading proposals

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
