Number of Positions : 1

Duration : 4 months (beginning in May)

Discipline : University program in Environmental Wildlife Studies or related field

Year of study : 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year

Location : Pinawa, MB

NOTE :

All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full-time studies upon completion of their work term.

Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term in order to graduate.

INTRO

  • The student will assist with the site-wide Environmental Risk Assessment and Biodiversity study. The position also provides support to the WL Environmental and Effluent Monitoring Programs for field sampling during their peak season;
  • support to WL Environmental Management for sampling activities associated with site characterization / clearance for decommissioning projects.

    The student will provide sample collection, sample logging, and documentation to support the analysis and reporting of test results.

    The student may also provide back-up support in the gamma counting room to alleviate the work load for analysts during vacation periods.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work outdoors / indoors to perform environmental field sampling (e.g., collection of water samples, soil samples, vegetation; fish)
  • Work outdoors / indoors to perform passive acoustic monitoring, species at risk identification, annual nest count and identification.
  • Work in a lab and office to prepare sampling packages for environmental / radiological sampling associated with site characterization (e.
  • g., water, soils, vegetation, fish), preparation of off-site sample shipments

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum first year University Student (preferably in Environmental Wildlife Studies or related field)
  • Good communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to work within a team environment and interface with various groups
  • Ability to work safely within lab and field environments; safety conscious with demonstrated safe work habits
