The Opportunity :
The Continuous Improvement (CI) Leader is a key leadership role on the Maple Leaf Foods (MLF) Hamilton (Heritage) Plant Leadership Team.
Responsibilities for this role include; creating a performance driven, continuous improvement culture at all levels within the plant, building skill and capability of the Plant Operations Team to apply Lean-Six Sigma tools in the pursuit of ongoing Continuous Improvement.
Reporting to the VP, OES-Six Sigma and accountable to the Heritage Site Leader, this role has overall accountability to partner directly with the plant leadership team to identify Critical Business Needs and associated action plans ensuring the use of Lean-Six Sigma methodology and tools to drive continuous improvement.
Responsible for site deployment of the MLF Operations Excellence program including making performance and opportunities visible through the establishment of cascading plant metrics and effective operating rhythms from the site leadership team to shop-floor level, as well as the development and management of the site’s CI plan.

The person in this role is expected to have an understanding of process management principles and process improvement methods including Operations Excellence (Lean Manufacturing).

A snap shot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do :
Understand and support execution of site objectives. Assist Site Leadership team with the identification and quantification of Critical Business Needs (CBN) and primary opportunities for improvement
Liaise with plant leadership team to connect financial indicators (OH, material and labor costs) to operational indicators (OEE, labor efficiency, material usage) and cascades these down to line and equipment targets;
Facilitate the development and execution of the site CI plan including project pipeline, driving the overall progress and status of the plan.
Ensure cross-functional teams are utilizing the appropriate improvement methodology (Six Sigma, Lean, OpEx tools) including training on tools, application support as required and coaching Operations Leaders in their application building capability with broader site team.
Process owner for plant performance management system (operational metrics) including Line Performance, Intelligence and automated down time reporting.
Coaches other functional leaders on using data driven decision making, sampling, risk analysis, testing and inspection frequencies, Six Sigma, Lean and OpEx methodology & Quality tools.
Facilitate OEE Continuous Improvement process with cross-functional site teams including setting of annual OEE improvement targets and facilitating weekly status reviews and action planning.
Conduct business case and risk analysis as required. Provide CI Project Management support utilizing DMADV / PDCA framework.
Research and apply functional best practices within project scope.
Ensure sustainable results through application of change management and pragmatic control plans.
Support Site Leaders in deployment of Operations Excellence framework including annual baseline assessment and pillar team deployment.
Lead the Waste Elimination teams to build operator skills at identifying and eliminating waste.
Assist with the identification and quantification of major opportunity areas, including the re-application of learning across MLF.
Build strong teams and work collaboratively with peers and stakeholders, while ensuring others are held accountable for their contributions.
Periodic travel may be required for training or project work.

What you will bring :
A University degree (BSc. Engineering or Operations Management).
Black Belt Certification or Lean Implementation Certification is a requirement
Minimum 8 to 10 years of full-time Continuous Improvement work experience in manufacturing or supply chain, as well as commercial, finance or other transactional functions is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to inspire teams to deliver winning results against organizational priorities.
Track record of developing, coaching and leading teams of indirect and direct reports.
Demonstrated ability to take a roll up your sleeves hands-on approach leading the team with a deep understanding of the manufacturing process at the line equipment level and Lean-Six Sigma approach to process improvement.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates the Maple Leaf Foods Value of getting things done in a fact-based way .
Has routinely applied Lean-Six Sigma tools (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S, Gemba, DMAIC, PDCA) to identify and eliminate waste and improve performance.
Strong ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
Demonstrated ability to effect behavioural change through influence using Change Management methodologies.
Experience leading a significant cultural change.
Has led and / or coached prior manufacturing continuous improvement projects. Considered a strong coach on continuous improvement concepts.
Is able to teach the Operations team to apply core CI Lean-Six Sigma tools.
Experience in leading complex projects that require strong leadership, initiative, and change management is a requirement.
Demonstrated ability to implement and teach Lean Methodologies and Operational Excellence with a high degree of knowledge transfer and adoption on the part of the Operations Team.
