Scope

The Bylaw and Licensing Services Division has a regular full-time job opportunity at the Surrey Animal Resource Centre for an Animal Welfare Attendant.

As an Animal Welfare Attendant, you are responsible for providing a high standard of animal welfare and behavioural support for a variety of species.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate animals to determine safety for handling requirements, behavioural needs and pathway options.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of animal welfare and enrichment programs.
  • Provide training and ongoing coaching for staff and volunteers.
  • Offer pre and post-adoption consultations for animals needing behaviour and training support.
  • Assist in developing written materials (protocols, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.).
  • Cultivate and foster partnerships with other organizations for placement and intake options.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • You will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities :

  • Knowledge and application of the principles of animal learning theory.
  • Ability to monitor animal welfare, develop behaviour plans and determine prognosis.
  • Ability to provide recommendations on policies and procedures.
  • Excellent skills in presentation and public speaking.
  • Ability to work with Excel, Power Point, and Word.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects and work with a variety of animals.
  • Flexible schedule to assist at community events.
  • Qualifications

    As the successful candidate, you will have the following :

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented with completion of courses in Animal Care.
  • A minimum of two years of related experience in sheltering or working with animals.
  • Preferred qualification : KPA, CPDT-KA, CTC, IAABC Supporting Membership.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License with safe driving history.
  • Conditions of Employment

    This position requires completion of a Police Information Check.
