Responsibilities

  • Audits the Accounts Payable vouchers (invoices, Cheque Requisitions) to determine whether GL coding are correct. Works with approvers to remedy incorrect coding.
  • Analyzes and reconciles the sales tax transactions posted through Accounts payable, to ensure compliance with CRA requirements
  • Prepares and audits the monthly recurring Accounts Payable transactions
  • Assists the Accounts Payable Supervisor with the preparation and production of payments (cheques and Electronic Funds Transfers)
  • Performs financial analysis as requested by Finance management
  • Works with the Accounts Payable Supervisor in addressing and resolving accounts payable issues raised by external vendors and internal operators
  • Participates in the preparation of the audit documentation for the main audit, and provides support to the auditors while conducting their audit work
  • Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies;
  • takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.

  • Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
  • Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of accounting experience
  • Must be detail oriented and have superior analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written, oral communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Must possess strong computer skills (Advance Excel, Word, computerized accounting package, knowledge of Access an asset).
  • Knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Not for Profit Organizations an asset
  • Understanding of the entire accounting process, from data-entry, to completing Financial Statements.
  • Experience in computerized accounting systems and in preparation of financial statements and financial reports.
  • Previous experience working within an organization with government funding an asset.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written communication skills
