Status : Regular, Full Time (40 hours per week), Union

Pay Rate : $43.68 - $50.57 / hour

Reports to : Regional Business Leader, Interior

Principal Accountabilities :

  • Education : educate clients and stakeholders on how to meet safety requirements and provide information on new requirements and trends by creating and / or providing presentations, demonstrations or individual coaching.
  • Assisting the code shops in the interpretation and application of codes

  • Inspection : provide inspection services, including worksite audits, incident investigations and hazard eliminations, to clients and stakeholders to ensure that safety regulations, codes and standards are correctly implemented, and reviews requests for variances and equivalencies and makes recommendations to the Safety Manager.
  • Enforcement : implement enforcement policies by providing clear direction and outlining consequences to clients and by providing disciplinary recommendations to Senior Safety Officer and Safety Manager.
  • Research : support research tasks by documenting inspections, providing audits, and investigating incidences, and maintain expertise by staying up-
  • to-date on industry changes and upgrading knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis.

  • Training : assist Senior Safety Officer to develop new Safety Officers by providing on-the-job training, regular mentoring and ongoing technical support.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience :

    Applicants must have a combination of education and experience to be eligible to obtain a NBIC In-Service Commission exam within the first year of employment.

  • Education could include one or more of the following :
  • Completion of an accredited trade certification program in such skills as : boilermaker, boiler mechanic, steamfitter, machinist millwright, or welder.

    Completion of a power engineering certification program.

    Completion of a military or merchant marine training program on stationary boilers, pressure vessels, or nuclear reactors.

    Completion of a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification program or an equivalent certification.

    Completion of Technology courses, Code courses, or National Board Conducted Courses.

    Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics

    Experience could include one or more years’ experience associated with the pressure equipment industry in the following categories :

    Engineering or design review

    Manufacturing, including fabrication methods or processes, in either shop or field

    Operation of boiler(s) exceeding 50,000 lbs. of steam per hour total capacity

    Performance of repairs, alterations, or maintenance of boilers or pressure vessels

    Quality control system related to boiler or pressure vessel manufacturing, repair, or alteration in either shop or field

    Inspection of boilers or pressure vessels either in-service or during construction

    Obtain a National Board In-Service Commission within one year of employment.

    Obtain a National Board New Construction A Endorsement within two year of employment.

    Obtain a Technical Safety BC Safety Officer Certificate of Qualification within one year of employment.

    Knowledge of Boiler, Pressure Vessel, Piping, Fittings and Refrigeration codes.

    Ability to assess situations that may lead to a variance.

    Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.

    Ability to write concise reports.

    Good keyboarding and computer skills, including knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.

    Valid BC Drivers’ License and a willingness to travel.
