products. Job Type : Location : Position Description The Afternoon Shift Laboratory Technician is responsible for the day-
to-day analysis of samples arriving into the laboratory and for ensuring they meet proper specifications so they get correctly allocated to the proper tank or disposal outlet.
The incumbent will lead the waste water, oily water and the solid treatment program. This is a represented position under the Teamsters Local Union 938.
Key Accountabilities Provide chemical and physical QA / QC analysis in support of the Toronto facility operations. Complete sample preparation, quality assurance and quality control of material.
Perform analytical tests on material, using both wet chemical and instrumentation methods for detailed trace level analysis, and basic fingerprint receiving criteria.
Laboratory equipment includes ICP, GCMS, GCECD, Karl Fisher, pH meter etc. Responsible for data entry, laboratory record management and control charting and for maintaining analytical method performance logs to ensure quality results.
Receiving and shipping approval of material and documentation, including production batch processing preparation. Ensure that results, reports and product release forms (including certificates of analysis) are completed, recorded and appropriately reported / distributed in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
Carry out neutralization and other treatments to manage, dispose of and recycle chemical products, and participate in developing new treatment processes.
Operate, be able to troubleshoot, and maintain working order of laboratory equipment at all times. Perform routine instrument preventative maintenance.
Report concerns about samples, analytical results and equipment problems to the Management Team. Order, track and maintain inventory of day-
to-day laboratory supplies and chemicals as required. Maintain the Laboratory MSDS. Work independently, complete daily tasks accurately and efficiently.
Contribute to the team by offering training and accomplishing other related tasks. Identify and recommend improvements to processes and systems.
Provide technical support and on-site analytical chemistry expertise on assigned projects. Comply with Corporate and regulatory policies and procedures.
Assist with other duties as assigned by management. Provide short term coverage in Shipping & Receiving to receive bulk loads during breaks and off hours.
Experience, Qualifications & Education Technical College diploma in a related technical / chemical field. A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering Technology is considered an asset.
Previous laboratory experience in an industrial environment is preferred. Familiar with environmental regulations (CEPA, Ontario Reg.
347 / 558, TDG, etc.) as well as internal and external industry specifications that support the business is an asset. MS Office (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook etc) proficiency.
Ability to adjust with rapidly shifting priorities and to work with minimal supervision. Ability to provide direction to plant staff for instructions in the yard.
Sound ability to assess risks related to mixing chemical products. Proven communication (written / verbal) and mathematical skills.
Effective organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong team player with the ability to work independently. Working Conditions This position is primarily performed in a laboratory setting.

Work Schedule This position will operate on the Afternoon Shift (3 : 00pm-11 : 00pm) in an industrial setting that operates 24 hours per day, 5 days per week.
