Our client, Atlantica Content Studios in Markham, ON , is seeking a Copywriter / Proofreader to join their team for a 6-month contract.
In this role, you would be responsible for the quality of copy (formatting, style, accuracy, grammar, spelling, layout) for different retail materials, as well as :
Writing and modifying copy according to client style and standards; review work and be accountable for accuracy and fact-checking
Edit and proofread copy for accurate spelling, sentence structure and grammar
Become knowledgeable of client style guides, language and grammar regulations
Ensure copy reflects proper grammar, syntax and spelling; mark-up proofs using standardized proofreading symbols to clearly identify any inaccuracies noted
Perform final quality check before materials are released
Proofread and mark-up changes in Word, Acrobat or other soft proofing software or hard copies
Work closely with production managers, designers, writers and production artists to clarify suggested changes, either verbally or in writing
Ensure copy and photos accurately correspond
Ensure adherence to company Policies and Procedures, including Health and Safety

This role requires effective interpersonal skills and a strong command of the English language in order to communicate effectively with others both in writing and verbally.
To be successful in this role, you will have strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to set priorities to work independently and possess :
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Journalism, Communications, English studies, or related field of work experience
Minimum of 3 years proofreading / writing experience in a fast-paced environment
Impeccable spelling, grammar, sentence structure and knowledge of style
Experience with digital proofreading applications an asset
Accurate typography knowledge, with an excellent memory
Ability to self-motivate and problem-solve; organized with ability to stay focused and calm under pressure
Service-oriented with business acumen and maturity
Competency in MS Office Suite and Acrobat
Hours : Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Location : Markham, ON Hwy 407 and 404 area.
