Reporting to the Plant Manager, the assists the Plant Manager to lead critical process and systems for the operation of a stand-alone grain facility by ensuring and building a world class culture around Operational Excellence in the core impact areas, including Risk Management, Operational Effectiveness, Capital Effectiveness, Reliability Excellence and Talent Management.
The incumbent plans and executes physical operations on a daily basis to ensure that Cargill standards, Operational Excellence Scorecard Factors, and customer needs are met.
The Production Supervisor is responsible for direct supervision of the Operations staff at their location.
40% Focus on Plant Operation and Risk management.
Supervise, lead and engage his / her own production team in the facility on a daily basis.
The incumbent focuses on planning and implementing Operational Excellence processes with Operational staff to create a safe environment and effective use of the asset to achieve production goals.
Production Supervisor assists the Plant Manager in a variety of audits such as the location grain audit, crop inputs audit, food safety audit, environmental health & safety audits, security audits and ISO / HACCP audits.
Ensures the Plant and yard are clean and safe for customers and employees.
Conducts regular plant inspections, holds monthly safety meetings with staff to review procedures and safety awareness issues.
The Production Supervisor assists in management of all aspects of Provincial / Federal regulatory and Cargill compliance programs.
Assists in operating safe and efficient crop inputs warehousing.
20% Focus on Operational Effectiveness.
The incumbent receives grain (unloading, grading, moisture testing), and then bins, blends and ships grain to the required specifications.
Operates grain cleaners and dryers if the facility is equipped with them and cleans and dry’s grain to desired specifications as set out by the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC).
Assists in the efficient meshing of buying and shipping programs by working closely with the Plant Manager, Production Supervisor and carriers (rail or truck).
Consistently meets all rail car and truck loading requirements to ensure that customers receive the products and services they require in an efficient and timely manner.
Assists the Plant management in managing the location grain or crop inputs inventory by following existing controls to minimize inventory losses.
Communicates and coordinates with sales team, the Plant Manager, other Farm Service Group (FSG) staff, merchandising and central logistics to ensure efficient meshing of buying and shipping programs and effective location space management.
Works with regional logistics to coordinate the shipments, and carriers (rail or truck) to determine what is required for the location to maximize opportunities.
Consistently meets all rail car and truck loading requirements.
20% Focus on Talent Management.
Actively participates in coaching, development, training and management support to Operation Employees within the location such that talent management goals of locations are achieved.
The Production Supervisor assists Plant Manager to execute plans and schedules of operations staff ensuring staffing levels are always appropriate and that seasonal staff has proper training and direction.
20% Focus on Reliability Excellence and Capital Effectiveness.
The Production Supervisor is accountable for operating the assigned area of the facility within the operating budget. This requires planning, organizing and a proactive approach to the operation of the assigned area.
o The Production Supervisor assists the Plant Manager with preparing part of the location capital budgets.
The Production Supervisor supervises contractors when performing work in the location and ensures work is completed within safety and quality.
Ensure plant operators are trained and capable to use operator care principles to operate plant equipment efficiently and effectively.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in an agricultural service business environment
Ability to effectively lead a team of diverse employees with demonstrated leadership
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proven problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills
Ability to manage compliance with Environment, Health & Safety and Operations standards and regulations
Ability to facilitate training
Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada.
