The Northwest Territorial Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) works under the direction of the Minister of Health and Social Services, in partnership with the Deputy Minister, Health and Social Services and the Health and Social Services regions, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the Northwest Territories through planning, development, deliver, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.

The position is located in the Sahtu Dene Necha Ko Long Term Care Sahtu Got'ine Facility in Norman Wells. The position reports directly to the Regional Manager, Operations.

The position will also oversee the day to day supervision of one to two Cook Assistant(s) whom are on duty. The incumbent works as part of the Dietary team to provide meal service to residents of an 18 bed long term care facility and 2 Transitional Care Beds, as well as special requests from within the NTHSSA.

Failure to perform duties completely safely and promptly would directly affect the service delivery of the Authority and may impact the well-

being and comfort of the residents of the Sahtu Dene Necha Ko Long Term Care Facility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of food, food preparation and equipment, safe food handling, and proper storage methods
  • Thorough knowledge and skills related to nutrition, cooking, serving methods, and portion control.
  • Reliable and able to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to formulate and communicate procedures, meal plans, and schedules.
  • Customer service focused.
  • The ability to speak North Slavey would be an asset.
  • Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by : Completion of Red Seal Trades certificate as a Cook; equivalences will be considered.

    This job opening is limited to residents living within the Sahtu Region.
