The Training Specialist will develop, maintain, and evaluate training activities within the Canadian Nuclear Laboratory (CNL) organization.

This role will participate, and may lead, in training and development activities including conducting needs analysis, establishing training requirements, designing and developing training material and resources, conducting training classes, and evaluating training programs.


  • Provides leadership, consultation and coaching on training programs and initiatives.
  • Develop and utilize a comprehensive needs analysis process to determine the needs of various customers and provide and implement solutions in technical training areas.
  • Monitors and may lead the performance of the various projects and / or training development initiatives.
  • Participate and may lead a team in the development and utilization of comprehensive needs analysis's in determining the needs of various customers, providing and implementing solutions in technical training areas.
  • This can include : the design, development, documentation, implementation, evaluation, validation, and management of CNL technical training programs that will meet the requirements of the customer and the required regulations.

  • Develop and implement training policies and standards that meet industry standards to produce comprehensive and auditable training programs.
  • Identifies and evaluates industry best practices and benchmarks. Implement new technologies (i.e., CBT, Web based training) and supporting training techniques to compliment and improve training conducted.
  • Plan and facilitate team meetings of subject matter experts, using a variety of human performance techniques in order to resolve training issues that affect organizational learning and overall effectiveness.

  • A university degree or College diploma in Training Development and / or Education plus a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • In the absence of post secondary education, a minimum of six (6) years experience in a training and development environment, either in an industrial or corporate setting, during which time the candidate has demonstrated the ability to assume the responsibilities described.
  • Experience in an engineering or technical environment developing training and linking training to business needs and measuring the results would be an asset.
  • Technical Knowledge (SME) of a facility and associated systems to enable some development and predominantly delivery of facility specific training to facility staff, or
  • Ability to conduct training needs analysis, course / program development, instruction and adult learning methodologies, evaluation and validations.
  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of the SAT process, providing innovative training
