We are currently seeking a Manager, Wealth Management to join our Wealth Department. The Manager, Wealth Management is responsible for providing ongoing coaching and managerial oversight to a team of duly licensed Financial Planners, Investment Specialists, Investment Advisors, and Associate Investment Advisors ( advisors ) in line with Westminster Savings’ strategic plan, and providing operational support for licensed Personal Account Managers ( PAMs ) and wealth management Financial Services Representatives ( FSRs ).

This position also provides a wide range of support for the Director, Wealth Management in all aspects of the credit union’s wealth management practice, and provides input to process innovations and other recommendations aimed to improve customer experience, revenues, and compliance.

What you’ll do : People Leadership

People Leadership

  • Oversee the performance of duly licensed advisors, providing ongoing coaching and managerial support
  • Work closely with branch management to provide day-to-day wealth management support for licensed PAMs and wealth management FSRs, providing direction when required
  • Identify training needs to ensure ongoing development and growth
  • Support employees to achieve their business and personal development objectives, ensuring processes are leveraged and contribute to employee development
  • Support the Director, Wealth Management in various human resource management activities including building a recruitment pipeline and participating in the interview process
  • Wealth Management Operations

  • Support the Director, Wealth Management with strategy, reporting, supplier management, compliance, platform management, etc.
  • Establish a holistic approach to members, optimizing referrals to all lines of business (commercial banking, consumer operations and leasing) and other business partners
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of delivery of the financial planning experience through a process of regular review, file audits, coaching, and member feedback
  • Develop monitoring, evaluate progress, oversee action plans, to improve performance and results
  • Utilize a variety of software tools (ACE, NaviPlan, Advisor Work Station, Univeris, knowledgeXchange, Virtgate, Insight, etc.
  • for coaching purposes

  • Develop strong relationships with consumer operations managers, directors and other operations staff to facilitate an integrated customer experience as members are referred between Wealth Management and other lines of business
  • Serve as point of contact for Marketing in the development of promotions and campaigns to drive growth in the wealth management book of business
  • Maintain up-to-date financial planning, insurance and investment industry knowledge by participating in training programs and courses to upgrade skills and obtain or maintain accreditation and licensing requirements
  • Lead and / or participate in special projects, committees and implementation teams as required for operational, cross-divisional or corporate initiatives, representing Wealth Management as the subject matter expert
  • Liaise with Credential Financial Inc. and other third party vendors providing support for IIROC, MFDA, and insurance; strategic consultation;
  • sales and training; and financial planning tools

    Financial Results and Reporting

  • Ensure timely and effective reporting of Wealth Management
  • Collaborate with key internal departments (e.g. Finance, Business Intelligence) on various analysis, reporting, budgeting and planning for Wealth Management
  • Implement, manage and monitor individual targets set for the team that align with the corporate strategy
  • Risk Management

  • Work closely with the Manager, Compliance to ensure advisors effectively operate within an increasingly rigorous wealth management compliance environment and to identify, resolve, and prevent ongoing issues
  • Ensure that all corporate policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to, including compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements to mitigate the risk of loss to the credit union and its members
  • Collaborate with Risk, Audit and Compliance and partner compliance teams to ensure adherence to applicable regulatory requirements

  • What you bring : Education


  • Post-secondary degree in a related discipline
  • Experience

  • Five to seven years’ experience in the wealth industry, including IIROC, MFDA, compliance and financial planning, with thorough knowledge of sales management practices.
  • Life insurance knowledge is an asset.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Licenses or Certifications

  • Completion of Investment Funds in Canada (IFC) or Canadian Securities Course (CSC)
  • Any of the following are considered an asset :

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Personal Financial Planner (PFP) designation
  • Completion of Branch Managers Course (BMC)
  • Completion of Life License Qualification Program (LLQP)
  • Related Skills
