We are presently searching for a Design Director in our Toronto, CAN studio to join this team. As a Design Director, you will be responsible for leading the design effort within the office and for ensuring consistency with firm-wide design standards.
As an executive-level leader, you will be the Design rep for IA firm-wide and influential in further developing the IA presence in Canada Specific responsibilities will include :
Monitors and participate in project design development. Oversees and executes design presentations.
Approves (internally) selections of fixtures and finishes to use for projects before Senior Designer submits to client for approval.
Oversees integration into overall design.
Reviews and approves space plans for projects.
Extensive knowledge of detailing and finalizes details on projects.
Approves overall design and furniture packages. Oversees and approves produces final cost estimates, ensuring alignment within budget.
Builds and develop client and business relationships, including identifying, pursuing and securing new opportunities.
Manages overall design budget. Ensures adherence to set budget and immediately informs PM and / or client of any potential variances to the budget.
Mentors, develops, leads and manages the Design team. Oversees tasks and provide feedback on work product.
Introduces design concepts to current and prospective clients.
In unusual circumstances may be required to assist with support for field surveys.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited architecture or design school.
10+ years progressive experience working on commercial interior design projects.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of the commercial interior architecture and / or design industry.
Expert interior architectural detailing skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of working drawing techniques and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of building systems, codes (local and province) and ADA requirements.
Extensive knowledge of contract administration.
Comprehensive knowledge of design principles, practices and aesthetics including furnishings and equipment.
Expert sketching and rendering skills.
Intermediate MS Office application skills.
Advanced Revit skills, strongly preferred.
Advanced Adobe Suite skills.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
Highly developed presentation and graphic communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate a design concept to designers, technical staff and clients.
Demonstrated ability to manage and lead staff through a combination of direct authority and subject-matter expertise.
Working knowledge of budget preparation and proven ability to manage projects within budgetary constraints.
