Summary :

TransAlta has an exciting opportunity for a bright and driven individual that is passionate and knowledgeable on current social and government policy matters in Alberta and Canada.

The Policy Analyst will be accountable to research, interpret, write and present data covering a range of policy issues.

As the energy industry evolves, there is a greater need and opportunity to support and assist the management and implementation of policy outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to work directly with the President and CEO of the Company, to create, draft and establish external policy relative to several business and government initiatives and more broadly, the energy industry in Alberta and Canada.

This role will also involve working on other strategic projects and initiatives at the President and CEO’s request.

Accountabilities :

  • Conduct research and write policy papers to support external policy initiatives
  • Model, analyze and synthesize complex data for various policy issues
  • Present data and address complex policy matters to a wide demographic
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, correspondence and other written material
  • Build and maintain relationships within the industry and be an influencer to drive change
  • Research and remain up-to-date on current policy and other trends in Alberta and Canada
  • Attend meetings as required and be willing to work in a time sensitive environment
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Political Science, Economics, Law, Business, or related discipline
  • New graduate from a University within the past 3-5 years
  • Broad understanding of current energy policy and issues in Alberta and Canada
  • Strong conceptual, analytical skills and interest in energy policy / economics
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to analyze, synthesize and communicate complex concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to apply analytical, political and economic thinking to develop policy
  • Strong public speaker; must have the ability to present to large groups of people
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive change to different stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • An ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and in a time sensitive manner to the President and Chief Executive Officer and other key stakeholders within the industry
  • Experience with international work or completing international research projects
  • Working outside core hours as required
