Position Overview :
Reporting to the Technical Product Manager - Engines, the Technical Supervisor for Product Support will be the subject matter expert for all engines in OEM’s book of business.
The Technical Supervisor is responsible for leading a Team of Technical Leads through the failure analysis process. This includes overseeing the authoring and review of all technical reports generated by the Technical Leads and maintaining the accuracy and quality of all technical reports.
Job Description :
Work through the report writing process with each Technical Lead to remove roadblocks and to review and approve each report in a timely manner.
Advance all completed reports to the Technical Product Manager.
Be able to defend OEM generated reports when questions arise from Caterpillar, Finning or Customers.
Work with the Technical Leads to perform accurate parts and labour categorizations when required.
Work with the Technical Leads to identify and capture failed parts for warranty storage, for return Caterpillar on SIB’s, test iron or parts of interest, in an effort to support reliability initiatives.
Manage Send-it-Back (SIB) parts within OEM, including processing and executing shipping documents.
Review Caterpillar service literature including CPI’s, Service letters, Service Magazines, TIB’s, and their applicability to the current book of business.
Take part in technical conversations with Caterpillar, Finning and Customers as required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate technical findings in writing or verbally.
Lead and / or direct Customer Viewings and Virtual Customer Viewings and answer Customer questions.
Technical resource for engines in Service Bay or Engine Assembly.
Direct management and leadership of Technical Leads Engines.
Perform all tasks in a safe manner including filling out the Floor Level Hazard Analysis (FLHA), safety observations, and other safety input.
Ensure Technical Leads do the same.
Look for opportunities to improve and reduce material cost
Fully participate in efforts by Caterpillar, Finning and OEM to address product issues, improve Customer Experience, and lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership)
Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with Production, Customer Service, Finning Branch , Caterpillar and Safety personnel.
Look for opportunities / support efforts to improve report velocity through OEM.
Have successfully completed Caterpillar AFA 1, AFA 2 & AFA 3 training or equivalent Failure Analysis Skills
Familiar with Metallurgy principles would be an asset
Familiar with Caterpillar databases including : SIS, CPI, SIMS, SIB, Etc.
Fully conversant with Microsoft Office environment (Word, Excel)
Familiar with a mid-scale ERP environment
Familiar with ISO Quality Assurance Programs
Some previous leadership experience required
The ability to effectively communicate technical findings in writing or verbally.
The ability to work safely, lead by example, and to contribute to overall company safety.
