Purpose of the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled SQL Database Administrator to support the firm’s SQL environment (manage Microsoft SQL Server database servers, including routine maintenance, security auditing, backup and recovery, index tuning, and optimization).
This position will work with the DevOps team to ensure proper database design and optimal performance of products, and to enforce data governance standards.
The key responsibilities of this role are :
Core responsibilities - You will be asked to support the day-to-day SQL operations and to work with the rest of the team to define our technology roadmap.
The responsibilities include :
Support and maintain an effective database environment to support all business systems
Daily production support of the database application servers
Ensure proper security measures are enforced
Installing, managing and optimizing MS SQL Server (In a SQL 2008 R2, SQL 2012 environment)
Performance troubleshooting and optimizing MS SQL Servers
Upgrading and enhancing MS SQL Server environment to latest versions and patches
Participate in change control activities
Development of SSIS scripts
Firm projects as assigned, this role will act as the technical lead on many strategic firm initiatives
Support firm data warehouse, SSRS and SSAS environment
Maintenance - Part of the responsibilities includes the maintenance of existing applications. You will receive some requests to :
Perform integrity tests and data spot-checks
Perform performance tests on applications and analyze the results to prevent or correct potential problems
Support - You will be asked to provide a second level support to the users of internally developed application. The responsibilities include :
Troubleshoot problems found in existing applications with the collaboration of the operation team.
Identify the necessary fixes needed to resolve those problems
Provide the fixes to be implemented in production
Technical skills (Essential) :
Minimum 6-10 years of practical experience working as a database administrator.
Experience with SQL Server installations and configurations for stand-alone and clustered instances (In a SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012 and 2016 environment).
Experience with highly available architectures such as clustering, mirroring, replication, Always-on of MS SQL Server.
Experience in capacity and growth planning.
Experience in defining migration plans, risk mitigation and execution of defined strategy.
Strong understanding of SQL Server backup and restore concepts and implementations.
Strong performance tuning and optimization skills.
Strong understanding of index design and management.
Strong understanding of SQL Server security concepts and implementations.
Understanding of file groups and data file layouts.
Understanding of concurrency and locking concepts.
Experience with SQL Server tools, including SSMS, Profiler, Tuning advisor, Business Intelligence Studio, and Configuration Manager.
Experience creating and managing SQL Server Maintenance Plans and Jobs.
Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting incidents and performing root cause analysis.
Strong working knowledge of SSIS, SSRS and SSAS.
Strong knowledge of T-SQL including enhancements introduced in SQL Server 2008, 2012 and 2016. Ability to create and maintain scripts, jobs, views, stored procedures, user-defined functions and triggers.
