Job Description

Manulife’s Global Data Office (GDO) is seeking a Data Architect reporting into the Director, Data Architecture. As Data Architect you will (1) champion and support strategic & / or global data initiatives that strengthens Manulife’s global data and advanced analytic capabilities, (2) foster cross-

segment collaboration and communication helping build an agile data insight driven culture, and (3) lead and nurture open data design and architecture establishing conditions for successful technical and analytic innovation.

Mandate covers :

  • Using new & existing Big Data & Cloud technologies contributing to the innovative design, development and management of data analytics labs supporting to increase knowledge and insight from enterprise data
  • Defines standards for enterprise data management structures and processes
  • Collaborates with business partners to optimize data collection, storage and usage to maximize the value of information across the org
  • Drive the development and execution of various data management strategies including Master Data Management, Business Intelligence, Analytics
  • Develop a model management and repository strategy to manage all information architecture artifacts
  • Develop data architecture roadmaps towards the future state information architecture.
  • Experienced in implementing Data Governance frameworks for Metadata, Data Quality, Data CLassification, Data lineage, Data Catalouge, Data Sharing.
  • Collaboration with Analytics team for Data Architecture & Governance implementations.
  • Work closely with Agile Delivery streams to ensure effective implementation of the Data Architecture concepts and strategies
  • Develop, communicate and support the implementation of corporate policies, standards, and procedures that provide effective architecture, governance and management of information / data assets
  • Develop and maintain effective and efficient data architecture and data ownership.
  • Collaborates with business partners to optimize data collection, storage and usage to maximize the value of information across the org
  • Works with Architect teams to Document data interfaces and movement which includes frequency of movement, how the data is transformed as it moves, and any aggregation or calculations
  • Qualifications for this role include :

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or related.
  • Solid experience with business intelligence and data warehousing development technologies, RDBMS, Hadoop and Analytics Environments.
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years of experience in IT with a minimum of 4+ years in Data Architecture design.
  • Expertise with Big data technologies and Hortonworks / Cloudera HADOOP platform
  • In-depth experience designing and implementing information solutions
  • Knowledge in the design and construction of information architectures that enable well integrated transactional, collaborative and analytical systems
  • Data / informational modeling expertise at the enterprise level
  • Understanding of common data architecture frameworks
  • Understanding of taxonomies and ontologies, as well as the challenges of applying structured techniques (data modeling) to less structured sources
  • Deep understanding of Master Data Management architectures and operating models
  • Solid Experience with business intelligence and data warehousing development technologies
  • Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written form
