Key Role

This role will be a key part of our journey in developing the next greatest digital experience for Canadian Industry.

The primary focus of this role is to build and enhance the data and attributes journey at GS1 Canada. As a data leader, you will be an integral part of GS1 Canada’s Data Centre of Excellence and get an opportunity to develop and build next generation data capabilities.

You will champion the data vision of the company and strive to lead a constructive and collaborative culture within your team.

You will be a creative thinker whose solutions focused mindset will ensure your team delivers results and is continually improving.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of data analysts to create, manage and maintain GS1 Canada’s data center of excellence, including documenting and maintaining our data assets, managing our attribute mapping capability and providing governance over our backend data systems
  • Work very closely with Business and Enterprise Architecture teams and help build data strategy
  • Support Data COE in translating strategic requirements into usable enterprise data architectures, which may include data architecture
  • Own, lead and manage attribute and metadata management and repository strategy to manage all enterprise data model
  • Work closely with business and technology partners to ensure effective implementation of new technologies that support Information Management, AI and Analytics
  • Develop governance around data management and keep the Senior Leadership appraised of trends, best practices and issues relating to information management, BI, and data analytics
  • Develop, deliver and manage the roadmap aligning with Global, Enterprise and Business Strategies that results in building and managing a data layer that is resonates the organizational direction
  • Review and evaluate current data mapping trends and build a future forward data mapping methodology for internal and external development and integration needs
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 5-7 years related experience, with bachelors or master’s degree in computer science or data related fields
  • 4-5 years working in a data architectural, management role with at least 2 years leading and managing a team
  • Experience mapping complex data feeds and data integration channels
  • Previous experience in a data analytical role aligning with reporting, predictive modeling and data visualization using SQL, R, Python or Tableau
  • Experience with data modeling, data pipeline, deploying clusters in parallel computing would be an advantage
  • Able to develop robust Data Process Flow and Data Architecture diagrams at all levels
  • Ability to manage through influence in a complex and evolving environment to meet challenging timelines and organizational goals
  • Demonstrated problem solving, communication and organizational skills, a positive attitude, and the proven ability to negotiate and influence others to obtain desired results.
  • Strong professional consulting skills

  • Mature, confident, and performance oriented
  • Capable of developing strong relationships with all levels of management
  • An excellent communicator, team player and someone who is intellectually honest
  • Ability to adapt thinking and response to the geographic differences across our global operation
  • Any experience working in a fast-paced software industry will be a good advantage
  • Ability to develop relationships with team members throughout the operation, gaining buy-in and building trust to facilitate
  • Project management and / or Agile experience.
