Scope

The Surrey RCMP Cell block is looking to fill a Cell Guard Team Lead position. The Team Lead is responisble for leading a team of guards to ensure all tasks and duties are performed in accordance to policies.

The Team Lead will report to the Cells Manager and liaise with medical and RCMP staff to ensure the Cell Block operation runs efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff to ensure all prescribed methods and procedures are adhered to.
  • Coordinate daily operations, with an ability to delegate to ensure operational needs are met.
  • Perform various internal audits to ensure the accuracy and legibility of documentation within Cells.
  • Identify and report any incidents to Cells Manager for escalation.
  • Perform scheduling duties, and time sheet validation.
  • Provide training to new guards to ensure competencies are met and maintained.
  • Assess employee performance to provide ongoing feedback and support.
  • Coach staff through leadership, with clear expectations and motivation.
  • Monitor prisoners' physical condition visually and through the use of closed circuit TV.
  • Work in a fast paced environment that requires the ability to multitask and problem solve quickly and confidently.
  • Qualifications

  • Completed Grade 12, supplemented by related courses and training.
  • Plus 3 years related experience, including 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Standard first aid with CPR C and AED certificate is required.
  • Other requirements include the coordination needed to carry out the duties of the position, as well as the ability to deal tactfully with the public, and to be comfortable using various RCMP computer applications.
  • Conditions of Employment

    This position requires completion of an RCMP Reliability Security Clearance.
