Position Description

The Nursing Resource Unit is seeking ten (10) full-time, permanent Program Assistants. As a member of a Resource Pool of Program Assistants you will be assigned to various shifts across all inpatient units at CAMH.

In this role you will be supervised by nursing staff to carry out assigned patient care duties, particularly through ensuring a safe environment.

You will be assigned to units where there is a need for additional staff. Reporting to the Manager and working within the inter-professional teams, the successful candidate will contribute to the organization and optimal function of the units under the direction and supervision of the nursing staff and promote maintenance of the therapeutic milieu.

Specific tasks of this role may include therapeutic engagement, utilizing least restrictive strategies in the prevention of restraint and seclusion, spending time on the unit with clients on continuous observation to help maintain safety, accompanying clients on and off site for transfers, appointments and programming as deemed necessary.

In addition, you will be responsible for collecting data, and communicating both verbally and in writing behavioural observations, and client’s responses to interventions.

In this role you will assume an active part in maintaining security of the program and service through your relationships with clients, as well as maintaining security through regulation of the physical environment.

As a staff PA with the NRU, you will be oriented to work across all clinical inpatient areas : Acute, Rehabilitation, Adult Neurodevelopmental Service / Geriatrics and Youth / Emerging Adult.

These positions involve shift rotation and weekend work. These positions are located at the Queen Street and College Street Sites.

Qualifications

The successful candidates will have a Grade 12 education or equivalent and will possess CPR Certification and a Personal Care Worker Certificate, or possess or be in the process of pursuing a certificate / diploma / degree in a health related field.

First Aid training and computer skills are assets. Preference will be given to candidates that have 2 years of experience in a health related field.

Ability to work with diverse clients and staff is required. The successful applicant will possess effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-professional team environment.

Besides being reliable, co-operative and client-focused you will be a motivated team player who shows initiative. In addition, you will possess effective organizational, problem-solving and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and or addictions settings is preferred. Bilingualism (French / English) and / or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note : This full-time, permanent position is part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.

Salary Range : $20.45 - $25.21 per hour
