    Seasonal Status

    The seasonal term of 6 months or more with a season end date of October 17, 2020.

    The actual status will depend on the start date of the successful candidate.

    About Our Opportunity

    We are seeking a Park Attendant who will assist us with seasonal operation and maintenance. This will include infrastructure, vehicles, grounds and equipment, providing visitor information, monitoring park activities for regulation compliance, advising visitors of park regulations and reporting non-compliance to Conservation Officers.

    You will ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and department policies, and will be an active participant in implementing the department Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Programs.

    This position requires the ability to work as part of a team, and performs strenuous manual tasks in an outdoor environment.

    Duties often require working irregularly scheduled hours, weekends, evenings and holidays. Must be willing to attend department training in duties related to this position.

    This position reports to the Park Caretaker.

    About You

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Grade 10;
  • Valid N.S. Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent;
  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate and WHMIS training;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
  • Experience in general carpentry; building and grounds maintenance; general machine maintenance; use of tractors, ride on mowers, push mowers, string trimmers and hand and power tools; and
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and sanitation requirements.
  • Assets :

  • Experience in the development and or delivery of education programs;
  • Customer service training;
  • Training, experience in or demonstrated ability for ensuring compliance of regulations in a public setting;
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations;
  • Forest Safety Society certified for power saw and spacing saws; and
  • Working knowledge and previous experience in computer use including : internet, email, and web-based applications.
  • Other Considerations

    Please note this hiring pool may be used to fill seasonal, temporary and casual park attendant positions in Halifax West, St.

    Margaret's Bay, Rainbow, Laurie, Oakfield.

    Candidates selected for interviews may be required to submit a Driver’s Abstract, Background and Criminal Records Check.

  • Must be available to work irregular unscheduled hours, evening, holidays and weekends.
  • Must supply your own CSA approved safety boots that are at least 6 inches high.
  • Pay Grade : MOS 04

    Salary Range : $1,442.77 - $1,470.15 Bi-Weekly
