Alstar Oilfield Contractors Ltd. is currently hiring a Weekend Shift Supervisor for our B-weld department (Friday-Sunday, 12-

  • hr shifts) for our SE fabrication shop in Calgary. Your job would be to supervise shop employees in a manufacturing environment;
  • plan, coordinate and assign work, implement policies and procedures and recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures.

    RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Oversee the requirements of all departments as a whole regularly checking on all workers during the shift
  • Assist all shop personnel with production issues and assist with finding a solution
  • Assist department managers in determining staffing requirements
  • Delegate employee tasks as directed by department managers using the daily dispatch list as a guide
  • Monitor department lead hands performance and encourage / assist with skill development
  • Develop staff skills and encourage teamwork
  • Monitor and train staff on current tasks to improve skills and decrease rework to make sure production goals are met
  • Help departments organize, communicate & coordinate to increase productivity, improve flow, maximize space, and minimize errors
  • Adjust the use of available resources to compensate for potential time lost when initial goals are not met, in order to achieve the next best outcome
  • Facilitate and enforce safety programs, policies, and provide safety training with the involvement and guidance of the safety coordinator
  • Investigate issues, both production and safety, to find immediate short term resolutions while working with office and shop management to find long term, permanent solutions
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures & systems to maximize quality, production & material flow. Ensure employees are trained properly on new systems and held accountable
  • Be aware of company policies and ensure their enforcement; ensure new policies are properly implemented and understood by all workers
  • Assist department managers in resolving staff concerns, enforce disciplinary actions as well as assist with performance management.
  • Document all issues and disciplinary actions appropriately and according to company policy

  • Track tool quantities and ensure employees are equipped appropriately to function in their position
  • Confirm that all required drawings, shop space, equipment, tools, and materials are supplied for each department by its manager to complete assigned tasks
  • Keep all staff aware of any changes in the work schedule
  • Attend 3 o’clock stand down meetings
  • Facilitate the daily toolbox meetings
  • Communicate with sub trades, organizing the workload around other companies
  • Assisting with the logistics of any Equipment / Modules leaving the facility
  • Ensure all doors and equipment are locked and properly shut down
  • REQUIREMENTS :

  • 5+ years supervisory experience in a manufacturing or construction setting
  • 5+ years years of fabricating, fitting and / or welding experience
  • Journeyman Welder or Pipefitter (B-Pressure welder preferable)
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering fabrication drawings
  • Knowledge of ASME quality control procedures as per shop manual
  • CSTS-09
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
  • Familiarity with industrial and construction material : i.e pipe fittings, valves, plate, beams, angle etc..
  • Excellent computer skills, experience with Google Suite is considered an asset
  • Strong leadership planning, delegation and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to train, guide and motivate employees
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time and workload efficiently
