Job Title : Operations Manager

Reports To : Executive Director & Director of Operations

Summary Statement

Under the guidance of the Executive Director & Director of Operations, the Operations Manager performs a variety of leadership functions.

These duties include but are not limited to planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the operations of the fabrication division.

Qualifications : Education :

Education :

  • Degree in Operations Management from an accredited university or college preferred; will consider 10+ years’ experience as a manufacturing manager in lieu of a degree
  • Knowledge Essential :

  • 5-10 years manufacturing management experience
  • Experience managing management and hourly employees
  • Strategy deployment, work planning and scheduling experience
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing
  • 2-3 years ERP / MRP systems experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office required; experience ERP / MRP
  • Skills and Abilities Essential :

  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills in order to resolve conflicts and problems
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills

  • Major Duties and Responsibilities :

    Plan, organize, and direct manufacturing operations; initiate plans and processes that minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.

    Implements manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure production targets are met, timely and efficiently.

    Manages production schedules and achieves business objectives while insuring product standards are met.

    Develop, maintain and assist with advanced quality systems, continuous improvement, procedures and practices.

    Manages and coordinates the changes to production systems, methods or work and equipment.

    Direct responsibility and accountability for the operating budget of the facility, analysis of costs and cost reductions.

    Develop and prepare business plans and analysis for capital equipment purchases and operating structure changes and outlining the ROI.

    Develop and prepare various reports for colleagues and ownership for understanding of the business’ performance.

    Engages in building a positive culture, coaching and mentoring, health and safety and continuous improvements.

    Manage the hiring, training and performance management of all production staff, management and individual contributor levels.

    Responsible for full administration of time and attendance and payroll approval.

    Collaborate and interface with sales group on all order management, scheduling and delivery to meet KPI objectives.

    Oversee the overall purchasing and inventory of all raw materials, fabric, hardware, etc., to ensure sales targets can be met.

    Occasionally travels between facilities for meetings, product trials, etc.

    Maintains complete knowledge of and complies with company and departmental policies, procedures and standards.

    Maintains client and company confidence by keeping information confidential and secure.

    Mental Effort Required to Perform the Job :

  • Continuous mental attentiveness is required when speaking with co-workers and suppliers
  • Frequent reading of numbers when checking the inventory numbers and to ensure manufacturing of the products and auxiliary products is proceeding as planned
  • Continuous mental effort is required in multi-tasking and handling interruptions that require constant refocusing
  • Continuous mental effort is required when dealing with human resources and quality issues
  • Physical Effort Required to Perform the Job :

  • Continuously walking and standing for long periods of time
  • Occasional travel between buildings for meetings and conference calls
  • Frequent physical exertion when managing the production facility
  • Responsibility for Supervision :

  • Management of production staff, individual contributors and management level employees
  • Hiring, training, terminating and performance managing staff
  • Liaison with Human Resources on all policies, procedures and employee related matters
  • Communicates regularly to all staff on production targets, efficiencies, and continuous improvements
  • Responsibility for Resources :

  • Responsible for the production facility
  • Responsible for all direct reporting employees
  • Responsible for the operating budget and KPI objectives for the plant facility
  • Responsible for Decision Making :

  • Determines which product is to be made on each workstation
  • Determines when to hire and terminate employees in conjunction with HR
  • Determines when workstations need to be shut down and maintained
  • Decides the budgets
