  • Ensure that all personnel in his / her charge know and follow the company’s policies, procedures and standards for work and safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants
  • Responsible for the health and safety of all personnel in his / her charge as well as support and contractor personnel
  • Will set and achieve production targets in accordance with the company’s stated goals and objectives
  • Direct service, production and development personnel and equipment to maximize their performance and production. This includes the assignment of equipment and the supervision of its use and working condition
  • Know, be in compliance with, and apply the provision of the Collective Agreement
  • Discipline personnel in his / her charge in a fair manner consistent with company policy
  • Be able to manage grievances by the Union up to a 1 level
  • Maintain an accurate shift log for the purpose of communicating reliable production and safety information, as required.
  • The log will include explanation for the variances from target

  • Ensure, as required, that Mine Rescue personnel are made available for training, as scheduled
  • Make routine checks of the refuge stations, explosive storage and fire suppression equipment.
  • Complete scheduled Safety Audits.
  • Verify equipment pre-operation inspections
  • Verify that proper tagging and lockout procedures are being followed, as required
  • Verify the accuracy and appropriateness of all work orders
  • Identify and examine all new or unusual working conditions for safety
  • Involve workers in making decisions concerning best and safest work practices
  • Verify the preparation, accuracy and delivery of time-worked records
  • Ensure required supplies, tools and appropriate safety equipment are on hand and delivered to the correct work site
  • Follow company procedures for reporting mechanical or electrical malfunctions and ordering appropriate maintenance support
  • Ensure that non-routine tasks are identified and safe procedures developed and communicated to all involved employees prior to the start of the operation
  • Attend safety, production planning meetings
  • Accept responsibility for other assigned tasks
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents and occurrences and complete reports immediately
  • Advise all workers of actual or potential risks to his / her health or safety
  • Take every reasonable action to ensure the health and safety of all workers
  • Recommend training programs for direct-reporting staff and workers
  • Conduct annual employee performance appraisals
  • Encourage worker input into production, best working practices and health and safety improvements
  • Track, analyze and report all variances to operations with appropriate action plans to the Mine Superintendent
  • Supervise work outside of the regular schedule
  • Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education considered an asset
  • Mining Common Core and a minimum of 5 years mining experience
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Experience with Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants
  • Supervisory Common Core
  • Previous Technologist experience or as a Mine Supervisor
  • Should have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Access.
