Duties

Provides Library services to faculty, students, staff and community members including but not limited to circulation, reference, interlibrary loan and instruction in the use of the Library collections and equipment.

Responsible for : instructing and aiding students, faculty, staff and community members on library resources, collection maintenance, materials processing, cataloguing, PeopleSoft library service indicator updates, library programming, library promotion and policy enforcement.

The incumbent oversees work, training and scheduling of bursary students, placement students, and replacement staff. Participates in library database maintenance, policy development, and web development.

Qualifications

We are seeking a detail-oriented and responsible team player to occupy the position of Library Technician for our St. Lawrence College Cornwall Campus.

Minimum 2-year Community College Diploma as a Library Technician (or equivalent) is required along with a minimum 2 years of experience in an academic library, working with local and remote reference tools / sources and various information databases.

Project planning / coordinating experience is desired, as is experience in a supervisory role. Our ideal candidate will possess in-

depth knowledge of standard library processes and procedures, wide general knowledge and an awareness of current affairs, excellent communication / presentation skills (written / oral) including negotiating, interviewing, instructing, etc.

The successful candidate will also possess strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, advanced computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheet, database, email and internet applications) including familiarity with library automation software and financial / student information system (PeopleSoft preferred).

  • Proficiency in library research, information analysis and evaluation, including knowledge of local / remote reference tools and sources;
  • resources available locally and at other Colleges; database searching techniques including Boolean logic, keyword searching, truncation, etc.

    Strong human relations / interpersonal and listening skills are a requirement of this position.

    Salary and Terms

    Payband F / 35 hours per week.

    Start : $26.57 per hour

    Range : $26.57 - $30.81 per hour

    Start Date : Immediately for up to 6 months
