About the Opportunity
Caressant Care is seeking a Cook to join our accomplished team of professionals at our 89-bed long term care home in Harriston, Ontario.
In this busy position, you will participate in food preparation and production, inspecting, sampling food to ensure quality, and estimating quantity of food to meet menu requirements.
Major Duties will include :
Preparing menu items using standardized recipes to ensure consistently high quality products;
Ensuring quality service of meals including appropriate texture, portion size, visual appeal and palatability;
Ensuring safe storage of all food items and applying safe food handling practices as per Public Health requirements;
Operating, maintaining and cleaning of dietary equipment and demonstrating use of same to other dietary staff as required;
Functioning as a team leader in the absence of the Food & Nutrition Manager by providing direction, guidance and motivation;
Recognizing safety hazards and promoting a safe environment for residents and staff;
Able to perform the physical tasks of the position including , but not limited to : lifting, bending, standing for long periods, working in a warm environment, dishwashing, scrubbing pots and pans.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED :
Chef Training Certificate, Culinary Management Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or Food and Nutrition Management Diploma and safe Food Handlers certificate.
Knowledge of safe food handling and preparation techniques, experience with quantity cooking
Ability to adjust standardized recipes and follow instructions
Able to read and write effectively in the English language
Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills
Able to meet physical demands of the position
Well organized and able to work within established time frames
Familiar with food preparation hygiene and sanitation practices
Experience working with vulnerable people an asset
Punctual and reliable
This is a Full-Time position. Additional hours available on a relief or call-in basis. Rate of pay is $21.02 per hour, with terms and conditions of employment per Collective Agreement.
The successful candidate will require a current Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
