You must have :

  • Post-secondary education in Psychology, ECE, ABA, Social Services, or related field and / or equivalent experience working with young adults with special needs
  • Experience and understanding of mental health and challenging behaviours
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adults with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health / psychiatric issues and Autism spectrum disorders
  • Ability to create a meaningful routine
  • Effective crisis management skills
  • Knowledge of behavioural support plans
  • Community integration skills
  • Ability to set firm boundaries
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Children and Family Development consolidated check
  • BC Class 5 driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • You’ll score more points if you have :

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification
  • Knowledgeable of creating independence vs. creating dependence
  • Experience working with high anxiety is beneficial
  • Ability to develop a rapport with adults in a variety of contexts
  • Ability to self-start, make judgment calls, and implement new models / programs as needed

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home
  • Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
  • Accompanying / transporting individuals to appointments and activities in the community
  • Building positive working relationships with the client, family, educational personnel, social workers, resource workers, service providers and partners
  • Encouraging and modeling acceptable social standards and setting appropriate boundaries
  • Engaging in frequent interaction with clients, using appropriate means of communication
  • Performing household maintenance duties, preparing meals, administering medication
  • Collaborating with the clinical team and providing input into assessments and care plans
  • Salary : $21.00-$23.50 / hour plus benefits
