Reporting to the Senior Specialist, US Retail Tax, (based in Loveland, Colorado) the US Tax Accountant / Advisor ( Advisor ) is a critical part of a team responsible for Nutrien’s US tax compliance.

The Advisor collects data necessary to meet compliance requirements and works closely with multiple accounting functions to assure tax information is timely and accurately reported.

The Advisor also prepares and maintains the working papers supporting the federal schedule M’s and state apportionment, and will also be responsible for assisting with certain income tax audits.

The Advisor directs tax notices received to the appropriate party for resolution and assists with other tax-related duties as assigned.

Key Tasks :

  • Works as a part of the Nutrien tax team to complete the US tax compliance including :
  • Calculating and documenting schedule M adjustments
  • Calculating and processing estimated tax payments and extensions
  • Collecting state apportionment information
  • Collecting and providing legal with financial information for annual reports
  • Processing returns through OneSource
  • Researching tax questions
  • Working on tax planning opportunities
  • Reconciling financial and tax information on the books and records
  • In more complex tax situations, utilizes resources available at various levels to ensure proper recording of the tax effect of transactions
  • Coordinates and helps provide information on assigned federal and state income tax audits
  • Works closely with the broader Finance & Accounting teams in Loveland, Northbrook, Calgary and Saskatoon
  • Builds and maintains successful relationships with all US external stakeholders including outside advisors, external auditors, governmental tax auditors, and tax associations

  • Required Professional Qualifications and Education :

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or Law from a recognized institution
  • Three to five years of experience practicing tax in either a global organization or a larger tax consulting firm supporting global organizations
  • Strong knowledge of US tax compliance
  • Working knowledge of accounting for income taxes
  • CPA designation and / or US Masters of Tax designation is considered an asset
  • Experience using any of the following computer systems is considered an asset : SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, OneSource and Longview.
