This role sits within Laurentian Bank, a subsidiary of Laurentian Bank Financial Group.

The incumbent reports to the Senior Manager Financial Planning and Analysis. The candidate is responsible for developing budgets, monitoring financial results, and updating forecasts for the Shared Services groups, as well as supporting process improvement and financial report modernization by leveraging BI tool.

The candidate is also responsible for carrying out financial analyses of various projects by acting as a financial business partner in the management of strategic initiatives within the Shared Services groups.

The work covers building financial models, establishing financial analysis and business cases, and monitoring and reporting on project progress and related financial results.

Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Analytics (50%)

ºMainly support AVPs and VP direct reports in Shared Services groups by preparing, analyzing, and reporting on the monthly results, providing information as required to help audience better understand their financial results.

ºCarry out detailed analysis to reveal cost structure and drivers of major service contracts or spending items to help business leaders identify savings opportunities under cost optimization initiative.

ºPlay a key role in the monthly rolling forecast and annual financial planning cycle, facilitate key assumptions to drive high quality forecasts and support the preparation of annual budget.

ºFacilitate discussions around financial results, financial analysis, forecast and budget with business leaders; establish partnership with business leaders by going beyond numbers to think from business perspective, identify the financial challenges they are facing and help them meet financial targets.

Process Improvement and Financial Reporting Modernization (40%)

ºParticipate in critical internal processes such as month end closing, forecasting, and budgeting; prepare journal entries and working files required to ensure accurate financial results.

ºImprove and document month end process by automating certain manual processes, seeking opportunities to reduce the number of journal entries to avoid duplicate effort and optimizing the end-to-end process to reduce time required.

ºImprove and document forecast and budget process by optimizing current templates, automating the process of generating system input files and validating the output accuracy.

ºParticipate in Financial Reporting Modernization by incorporating BI tool to the FP&A process; support the creation and transition of BI powered financial reporting model to replace current excel based reports.

Project Support (10%)

ºProvide financial analysis to support projects; collaborate with sponsors, project managers and business leads to ensure the cost and benefit are properly evaluated and captured in the business case.

  • ºSupport monthly reporting of project CAPEX and OPEX; work closely with enterprise project management office to ensure the reporting accuracy;
  • participate in the initiative to improve OPEX tracking and reporting.

    Qualifications

    ºUniversity education with a bachelor's degree in Finance, accounting, or related field

    º2-3 years of working experience in banking industry as financial analyst or similar role.

    ºProfessional certification or progress towards professional designation an asset (CPA, CFA).

    ºProficiency in the Office suite (especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).

    ºProficiency in the Oracle Essbase application an asset.

    ºWorking knowledge of banking products, back-office function, and business acumen

    ºWorking knowledge of BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau an asset

    ºFrench an asset
