Position Summary

The Boundary Hospital is a Community Hospital located in Grand Forks, BC. We are seeking a Power Engineer 4 / Maintenance Worker V for a temporary, full time position.

This position will be available until the return of the incumbent in October 2020. The Power Engineer 4 Maintenance Worker V position is being hired by Interior Health’s Plant Services, where as a whole provides services and support for the safety and comfort of patients, staff, and visitors by maintaining the physical environment, grounds and systems.

The Power Engineer 4 Maintenance Worker V operates and maintains a power plant or any low pressure steam plant by operating, repairing and carrying out preventative maintenance on the boilers, air conditioning units, emergency power, and other related equipment of the hospital in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Performs trades duties approaching the journeyman level in one or a variety of trades’ areas such as electrical, plumbing and painting in compliance with applicable codes and regulations and supervises Maintenance Workers and other designated staff.

Other typical Responsibilities are, but not limited to :

  • Operates, monitors, and adjusts physical plant and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems by operating a variety of mechanical, pneumatic and / or electronic control systems and performing such tasks as altering systems operating parameters and schedules;
  • repairs and calibrates various instrumentation components of the steam and HVAC systems; maintains required documentation.

  • Monitors and adjusts chemical treatment systems.
  • Constructs items such as walls, doors, floors, ceilings and windows by framing, applying and finishing materials.
  • Designs, constructs and repairs furniture, cabinets, desks, tables and shelves.
  • Performs plastering, painting and decorating.
  • Performs electrical and mechanical repair to equipment, such as washers, dryers and plant equipment.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Supervises maintenance workers and other designated staff.
  • Maintains building integrity by performing maintenance to doors and windows and their related hardware.
  • Answers service and emergency calls for sterilizers and a variety of building systems such as fire protection, medical air, vacuum and gases;
  • resets systems, assesses and performs required repairs or calls in appropriate person.

  • Ensures compliance with various codes and regulations by providing direction in relation to plant safety to all persons working within the power plant.
  • Operates Interior Health vehicle to pickup, deliver and / or transport supplies, building materials and / or equipment as required.
  • Days of work are Monday to Friday (08 : 00 to 16 : 00) with weekends and statutory holidays off. Some rotating days of on-call shifts after hours is required.

    Qualifications

    Education, Training and Experience :

  • Grade 10, plus four years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certificate of competency as 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of British Columbia.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Skills & Abilities :

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
