We are looking to fill an Environmental Scientist position in our growing Canadian Operations to be based in either Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver depending on the candidates preference.

Responsibilities :

  • Assist in the growth of the Environmental group, increasing opportunities and capacity
  • Foster relationships with existing clients based on existing work and to generate new work
  • Completion of wildlife, stream and wetland assessments
  • Completion of inventory assessments and environmental monitoring
  • Development of wildlife mitigation measures and assessment of their effectiveness
  • Preparation of technical correspondence and project reporting; review of technical reports of others, providing oversight and guidance
  • Organizing and leading the field portion of projects including pre-field planning such as budget, safety, and equipment planning
  • Emergency Spill Response :

  • Required to be available to assist with emergency spill response work for clients
  • Spills may include train derailments, pipeline releases, trucking accidents, chemical spills, etc.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Planning :
  • Assist in preparing emergency response plans, participation in emergency exercises, and provision of training to clients, etc.
  • Field Work :

  • Participate in emergency spill response projects
  • Responsible for contractor oversight tasks including containment / confinement of spills, drilling, stream rehabilitation, wildlife management, site restoration, etc.
  • Conduct water level monitoring, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, and air monitoring as required
  • Report Writing :

  • Assist with preparation of regulatory submissions on behalf of clients
  • Responsible for creating draft reports to be reviewed by supervisor or project manager
  • Responsible for creating charts and figures for review by project manager
  • Assist in the preparation of project related memorandums
  • Assisting Project Manager with proposal writing
  • Researching regulatory information using various resources
  • Recommended Skills, Competencies and Qualifications :

  • Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) .Have obtained a B.Sc or higher, in Biology or a related environmental field
  • Registered (or eligible) as a Qualified Wetland Science Practitioner
  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the environmental field
  • Have broad experience in fish and wildlife habitat assessments and research, mitigation planning and environmental monitoring, as well as stream and wetland identification and assessments
  • Possess excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, including technical report writing and reviewing experience
  • Have demonstrated project management skills, including strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight timelines.
  • Candidates with environmental monitoring experience on construction projects are preferred
  • Experience interpreting and applying environmental management legislation, regulations and policies
  • Experience with wildlife habitat assessments, inventories, sampling design, and scientific reporting
  • Liaison with environmental regulatory agencies, non-government agencies, public and private resource development agencies.
  • Experience in interpretation and application of a resource management program under government legislation and policy
