We are currently recruiting for a Controller to join our Corporate office in Mississauga, Ontario. Position Summary The Controller will report to the Vice President of Finance and will be a key business leader responsible for accounting, financial planning and analysis, cost control, asset management and business decision support for Praxair Canada’s Packaged Gas business unit.

The Controller will collaborate with senior management to position the business for financial growth and to ensure that the company meets or exceeds its financial commitments.

Responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and effective financial processes, systems and controls to ensure compliance with Corporate policies and procedures.

Position Duties Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to :

  • Work closely with the VP of Packaged Gas Canada and the leadership team to improve financial performance and understanding of key financial drivers and metrics.
  • Oversee monthly accounting close process and timely and accurate reporting of financials
  • Provides business unit performance evaluations and insight (reporting and analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual results)
  • Responsible for the development of annual financial plans including capital and operating budgets to ensure optimal utilization of financial resources in support of business objectives.
  • Assist with the creation of effective senior leadership reporting packages that can be shared with key stakeholders including process and business leaders
  • Support senior management in the evaluation and execution of new business opportunities
  • Prepare financial analysis to support investment decisions
  • Support functional leaders to validate and achieve productivity / cost Improvement. Proactively promote cost and headcount controls.
  • Improve working capital with focus on accounts receivable and inventory in conjunction with the Business Process Lead
  • Evaluate financial processes and systems to drive continuous improvements in efficiency, internal controls, and reporting capabilities.
  • Maintain internal accounting control and SOX compliance. Support internal and external audits.
  • Participate or lead special projects as required.
  • Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Finance or Accounting, Professional Designation (CPA CA, CPA CMA)
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive Accounting and Finance experience
  • Experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial Accounting and Cost Accounting required
  • Experience working within a Retail / Distribution environment preferred
  • Demonstrate the ability to thoroughly understand a business's strategy and determine linkages to financial initiatives and drivers.
  • Ability to effectively manage people, projects, and tasks ensuring appropriate responsiveness and priority.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels within the organization and influence processes across multiple functions and stakeholders.
  • Highly computer proficient, including advanced capabilities with Excel, Access and Essbase
  • Knowledge of financial and ERP systems, JDE preferred
