The Business Manager is primarily responsible for providing effective transportation services to customers, and manage the departmentÕs resources and work processes cost effectively and efficiently in the attainment of customer service and delivery goals.

  • Supervising and managing drivers including training, development, coaching and performance appraisals in area of responsibility
  • Scheduling drivers and verification of hours worked
  • Monitoring the P and L and executing on issues affecting the financial performance of accounts
  • Monitoring service levels to ensure maximum levels of customer satisfaction
  • Assisting dispatchers and planners in troubleshooting and resolving day-to-day issues and activities
  • Ensure goals are met and exceeded in the arrears of safety, quality, productivity and people measurement
  • Promoting Health & Safety guidelines and operational policies and procedures
  • Some travel may be required
  • Overtime as required
  • Continuous improvement
  • Other duties as required
  • Minimum of 2+ years in a management or supervisory capacity, preferably in the transportation industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong leadership and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • MS Office proficiency necessary; Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Direct experience with staff scheduling in a variable work volume environment required
  • Experience in a 24 x 7 operation, preferably in the transportation industry
  • Meeting financial targets within the P&L
  • Ensures overall effectiveness of a functional area, department, or administrative process by providing leadership, and technical and administrative direction.

    Description : Provides day-to-day supervision of the work of operational or support roles that are limited in scope and complexity

    Responsibility & Complexity : Work is performed under general direction according to established methods and processes. Problem resolution involves judgement in adapting or applying procedures to address situations.

    Work is of limited complexity involving straightforward problems. Work is reviewed for accuracy, quality and alignment with function / departmental objectives.

    Customer Relationships : Oversees team in anticipating and managing customer needs in order to provide high quality customer service and build lasting customer relationships.

    Maintains an awareness of evolving trends within area of specialty and works to ensure that Canada Cartage stays competitive.

    People Management : Contributes to and leads team-based approach in meeting team objectives. Is visible and accessible, providing open access for employees and customers to build rapport, discuss issues, and resolve concerns.

    Provides training and development to others as needed. Demonstrates company values as it pertains to specific role requirements as well as acts as role model for others.

    Expertise : Previous work experience in related industry required. Considered expert in field of expertise. Completion of formal professional certification or designation in area of expertise may be required.
