    We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Computer Support Technician as part of the Knowledge, Information and Technology Services (KITS) to support the various Research Centers, Programs and Branches.

    The CS-1 would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

    The successful candidate will provide clients with IT support services for distributed computers within NRC. He / she will implement and troubleshoot the hardware and software services provided to the clients.

  • In addition, he / she will assist the KITS branch members to improve the general operating efficiency; edit and maintain documentation;
  • perform inventory; maintain networked hardware, software; provide IT support to computer and network users; desktop and network software and management tools.

    Screening Criteria

    Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates :


    Bachelor degree in Computer Science from a recognized University or a Technical College diploma in Computer Science or related field.

    An equivalent combination of education and direct experience may be considered.

  • Experience of MS Office suite.
  • Basic experience in networking concepts TCP / IP Protocol.
  • Experience in supporting Microsoft desktop operating systems in Windows 7.
  • Experience installing, configuring and maintaining the desktop hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Preference may be given to people who have prior experience with Mac and / or Linux.

    Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of Microsoft desktop operating systems (Windows7).
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite 2007 or 2010.
  • Ability to research and analyze complex IT issues as well as provide sound advice and expertise to clients and other team members.
  • Basic knowledge of TCP / IP suite of protocols.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques relating to desktop computers, desktop peripherals and network printers.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of Mac and / or Linux may be considered an asset in some locations.

    Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

    Salary Range

    From $54,160 to $69,634 per annum.

    In addition, for bilingual positions, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.

    An incumbent occupying a position within the CS Group is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $139 per month.


  • A pre-qualified list may be established for similar positions for a one year period.
  • Candidates who have Second Language Evaluation (SLE) test results with the Public Service Commission should include these results with their application.
