Enerkem is looking for an experienced business developer to fulfill a key role for the Opportunity Validation and Project Business Case Development phases of the company’s stage-

Enerkem Alberta Biofuels (EAB) is seeking someone who is undaunted by challenges and inspired by a dynamic and challenging operational environment, seeking opportunities where others see obstacles.
Reporting to the engineering manager, this position provides a unique opportunity for the right candidate to take his or her career to the next level by helping EAB continue to build a robust and safe manufacturing chemical plant.
You have the skills, experience and personality to work in collaboration with the site operations and engineering functions to build operational efficiencies designed to support overall plant safe operation.
Responsibilities include the provision of technical field support in the areas of production, reliability, management of change, regulatory compliance and health and safety.
Above all else, the successful candidate is resilient, able to push his or her limits and is motivated by the chance to personally and professionally grow at an exponential rate by becoming a key member of the site leadership team.
This person will join the EAB team in its ramp-up phase of the ethanol plant. He or she will be directly involved in developing operational strategies and reliability centric planning to facilitate the continued push for increased overall plant asset utilization.
Provide operational support through the development of operating and troubleshooting guidelines, procedures and process optimization.
Provide leadership and guidance through the growth and optimization of operations.
Manage, plan, organize and work with technical groups in the delivery of project deliverables.
Lead operational improvement projects that involve identifying and implementing process control strategies, process optimization, evaluation and development of process modifications.
Carry out calculations, designs, cost estimates, Heat and Material Balances (H&MB) and process simulations.
Provide technical support for assessment of management of change, including hazard assessment and risk analysis.
Maintain the quality of process engineering work.
Perform root cause analysis as required to improve internal processes.
Analyze operational data and provide recommendations to drive improvement.
Create, review and revise PFD’s and P&ID’s.
Develop and maintain internal and external client relations.Participate in the technical development of employees by providing mentoring and coaching.
Recommend technical training when gaps are identified.
Provide timely and accurate reporting of key metrics.
Work with the management team to document, establish and improve processes and procedures.
Conduct audits on new processes and procedures.
Find and apply relevant standards, regulations, codes and guidelines applicable for engineering tasks.
Stamp engineering documents, if necessary.
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
A minimum of 10 years experience in chemical / petrochemical process operations mandatory.
Time spent as a lead engineer, overseeing other engineers would be considered an asset.
Clear understanding of chemical engineering principles necessary.
Experience with process equipment, various types and configurations, benefits / shortfalls particular to a certain application.
Strong knowledge of management of change, root cause analysis, hazard and risk evaluation mandatory.
Strong process control and DCS understanding an asset.
Experience working on and managing wastewater treatment projects.
Must have excellent (100% fluent) English language skills (spoken, written & comprehension).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Proven process and diagnostic skills with the ability to problem solve in an operating plant.
Ability to manage many projects with minimal supervision.
Ability to adapt continuously and to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to solve problems, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and meet project deadlines.
Must be willing to spend significant amounts of time in the plant.
Must be available for on-call rotation and off-hours support.
Highly motivated and energetic and able to work well in a team environment.
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with co-workers and external vendors.
Previous experience working for a small or start-up company is considered an asset.
Previous working experience using lean methodology / tools is considered an asset.
Good working knowledge of computer programs (MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
