This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff one full-time permanent position in Nanaimo.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar permanent and / or temporary positions at full, part-
time or shift-work hours located in Nanaimo, BC.
Should a Civilian Member be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.
Notification regarding the Civilian Member appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.
Should a Public Servant be found qualified and selected for appointment, notification regarding the Public service appointment will be posted accordingly on www.canada.ca.
You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, experience or training.
Occupational Certification :
Possession of a Certificate of Competency; Engineer Third Class, Motor or higher
Recent and Significant* experience in the maintenance and repair of various marine vessels such as catamarans, zodiacs, rigid hull inflatable boats, basic water transports.
The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)
Knowledge of the operation of marine mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment and systems.
Knowledge of ship's construction.
Knowledge of engine room and deck machinery maintenance and repair programs and procedures,
associated regulations and regulatory authorities.
Knowledge of shipboard safety practices and procedures.
Ability to direct a predictive / preventative maintenance program.
Ability to maintain equipment, stores and material inventories.
Ability to perform repair and maintenance work on marine vessels and prepare reports.
Ability to operate computer software applications for record keeping, communication and the internet.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
