Human Resources Generalist : (50%)
Serve as the strategic business partner and HR consultant to the Canadian client groups on all Human Resources related issues ( 2400 employees across all provinces)
Maintain an effective level of business acumen about client groups performance, strategy, culture, priorities, challenges and strengths
Leadership of the HR function in accordance with corporate standards, practices and values
Partner with Global Compensation and Benefits teams to ensure market competitiveness and align on all initiatives
Lead local Canadian HR team for Home Office, Retail Stores, Distribution, Benefits / Comp / Shared Services related to employment, compensation, benefits, labor relations, leave management & health and safety
Work with Canadian leadership team on budgetary needs for organization, building budgets for all HR related items, benefits, engagement, compensation, payroll and impact of legislative changes
Management of HR metric reporting
Employee Engagement and Labor Relations (25%)
Responsible to ensure all employee relations issues investigated and resolved within company policy or practices. Liaison with Canadian & U.S. legal counsel
Lead implementation of employee engagement programs & initiatives with client groups
In partnership with legal ensure changes to all Canadian laws related to employment, compensation, benefits, health & safety are implemented and managed for all provinces in Canada
Talent Management & Development (25%)
In partnership with Global Talent Development team align strategies to continuously grow talent from within
Own the recruitment strategies and process in country, partner with Global Talent team to build strategies & tools
Partner with client groups on organizational changes to support the business
Lead performance management process for Canada and in alignment with U.S.
Direct Reports - 4 HRMs & store support, 3 HR Benefits / Comp / HRIS, HR coordinator
Responsible for Canadian HR budget - $500k
Supports national employee base of 2400+ retail, DC & Home Office
Prepare communication or materials for meetings / events as necessary
Facilitate meetings with HR team and respective client groups (RACI, Brainstorming etc.)
Partner with Payroll team for trouble shooting / problem resolution regarding employee pay issues
Experience and Skills
Proven ability to work in a matrixed international organization and influence senior leaders
Through knowledge of Canadian laws related to employment, compensation, benefits, labor relations, leave management & health and safety
Strong conflict management or negotiations skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with employees at all levels in the organization (salaried and non-salaried)
Extensive experience investigating and managing a wide variety of employee relations issues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, business acumen, and formal presentation skills
Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
Ability to develop HR strategic direction and analysis / implementation of resources, time and budget involved. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement HR strategies to address business challenges
Takes the initiative to identify and anticipate client needs and make recommendations for implementation and execution
Able to travel internationally several times a year; ability to travel local throughout the Canadian market 10%
Minimum 3-5 years of Sr. HR Mgr. or Director experience encompassing multiple human resource disciplines including employee relations, organizational development & design, compensation & benefits, performance management and other generalists responsibilities in a fast paced retail or service industry
3 to 5+ years leadership experience in leading direct reports salaried and non-salaried
Retail industry experience preferred
Bachelors Degree required
CHRP certification / MBA an asset
Some travel required (10-20%)
