Perform all secretarial and administrative duties with respect to a number of pathologists, laboratory, physician, laboratory scientists or laboratory managers.
Duties may originate as a result of the respective physician’s, scientist’s, directors’ or manager’s work for KGH or Queen’s University.
Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Researches, prepares, types and distributes various laboratory and other reports
Maintains files of policy and procedure manuals for each laboratory
Attends, transcribes, types and maintains files of minutes of meetings within the department.
Types all correspondence and outside committee work for each pathologist, laboratory physician, laboratory scientist or laboratory manager.
Provides secretarial support for the physician’s individual office practice in pathology, clinical consultation and other areas as appropriate.
Most of these individuals are on faculty at Queen’s, therefore some of this work may be related to their university function.
Assemble material for various case conferences (rounds) as directed.
Maintains appointment schedules for each pathologist, laboratory physician, laboratory scientist or manager
Types submissions for various granting agencies.
Books appointments for patients to clinics.
Answers all telephone calls and inquiries.
Opens, sorts and distributes mail received and actions as directed.
Pulls files of relevant documents for meetings.
Covers other secretarial personnel for sickness and vacation. Orientates new medical secretaries as needed.
Provides administrative for support for teaching programs, i.e, pathology resident program, medical lab technology
Arranges transportation and accommodation for travel by pathologists, laboratory physicians, laboratory scientists or laboratory managers if required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :
2 year Medical Office Administration diploma or equivalent education and experience.
Two years medical secretarial experience in a health care environment within the last five years.
Key boarding 50 wpm (tested)
Proficient with medical terminology and medical transcription.
Proficiency with Windows applications, Word (level 2), Excel (level 1), and Power Point (tested).
Ability to work independently and set workload priorities.
Ability to accept work from various sources.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
Ability to attend work regularly
