We currently have a Regular Full-Time opportunity for a Secretary Stenographer 2 in the SUNDEC Unit at our Bayview Campus.

Summary of Duties

The Secretary Steno II assists in the operations of the Diabetes Education Program (SUNDEC), providing clerical, data entry and administrative duties.

Responsibilities include managing the schedule for professional team members, booking patients into classes and individual appointments, file management and coordinating care for the program that is located at multiple sites within the organization.

In addition, the secretary prepares statistical information for Ministry of Health reporting. As an essential member of the team, the secretary develops quality improvement strategies to enhance operations for patients and staff.

This position involves approximately 75% time spent in direct patient contact.

Qualifications / Skills

  • OSSD and post-secondary clerical course
  • Two year’s clerical work experience in a health care setting
  • Keyboarding skills of 60 wpm with a maximum of 5% error rate
  • Clear understanding of medical terms
  • Advanced computer skills which include the ability to use Microsoft windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and the internet
  • Experience working in ambulatory patient care setting essential
  • Experience working with patients with chronic disease
  • Experience in leading quality improvement changes
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload without supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously for multiple providers in a fast paced stressful environment
  • Problem solving skills and ability to advocate for patients in a busy environment with tight time lines
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to Patient-Focused Care / Customer Service oriented
