Blackbird Interactive is looking for a passionate and experienced programmer to join our team to be a key part of our engineering backbone working on an exciting and innovative IP.

Do you love working in low level code, optimization, and being one of the developers of the core game engine? This position will work with our Lead Engine Programmer to ensure that the game is supported by the platforms on which it will ship.

Do you love working with a small team of talented designers, artists and programmers to create ambitious in-game content?

You will be part of a small, high performing team who can crunch ideas quickly and come up with dazzling solutions to challenging problems.

You will have a collaborative approach and be directly involved in the day to day decision making and ship a high quality game.


  • Supporting an existing Modern C++ game engine.
  • Supporting a variety of platforms (PC, console, mobile) to ensure that the engine is working correctly on each one of them.
  • Being the expert and owner for platform APIs, rendering backends and hardware.
  • Optimizing CPU / GPU performance and memory usage.
  • Dealing with platform specific issues such as tricky bugs and system crashes.
  • Jumping wholeheartedly into learning new technologies and systems while leveraging them in creative ways to meet our technical and business needs.
  • Assessing requirements and providing development estimates to guide an evolving plan.
  • Embracing and helping to improve our engineering practices for solid design, testing, and implementation.
  • Requirements

  • 5+ years of game development on shipped products.
  • Strong understanding of Modern C++.
  • Experience optimizing gameplay systems and core libraries.
  • Self direction and a proven ability to thrive in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills, including verbal and written skills.
  • Pluses

  • Experience shipping AAA games on multiple platforms.
  • Experience debugging and understanding assembly code.
  • Experience with Unity 3D, Unreal, or other similar full-featured game engine.
  • Experience programming with DirectX, Metal, Vulkan and OpenGL.
  • Desktop / Console / Mobile development experience.
  • Understanding of memory management systems, file systems, CPU / GPU profiling tools.
  • Demonstrated passion for games and technology.
