As a member of the HR Team, you will work hands on with leaders in corporate, operational and client-facing roles to drive employee understanding and engagement around Avison Young’s culture and strategy.


  • Responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organization’s Human Resources department and Canada organization (approx.
  • 700 employees) by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices

  • Develop organizational strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues; contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to organizational strategic thinking and direction;
  • establishing human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives.

  • Implement human resources strategies by establishing department accountabilities, including recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, training and development, employee and relations, legal compliance, health and safety, and payroll.
  • Support site leadership team by providing human resources advice, counsel, and decisions; analyzing information and applications.
  • Guide management and employee actions by researching, developing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines;
  • communicating and enforcing organization values.

  • Comply with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation;
  • enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

  • Oversee employee benefits plans.
  • Assist in promoting and influencing the desired culture
  • Assists managers in implementation of performance management process
  • Drive consistency in employee experience and engagement, collaborate with the rest of the HR team on global people initiatives
  • Pay strong attention to detail
  • And, of course, other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Human resources, Business, or related area
  • 7+ years of generalist HR experience, with at least 4 years as a manager, in a fast-scaling organization
  • Highly motivated, energetic individual with the ability to be self-directed
  • Proven track record as a trusted partner who has credibility and positive long-term impact
  • Known as a genuine collaborator and team-player - an inclusive mindset and ability to build great relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Strong coaching, communication and influencing skill
  • Adaptable to fast-paced and quickly changing environment and work priorities
  • Exceptional Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills required
  • Experience using Ultipro is considered an asset
  • CHRP designation or working towards certification
