As part of Scotiabank’s Equity Research Publishing team, the Lead Editor is responsible for managing, coaching, and providing editorial guidance to the editorial team.
The Lead Editor is also responsible for editing equity research publications; managing assigned editorial projects through the publishing process;
and ensuring that publications meet the department’s publishing standards and adhere to regulatory and compliance requirements.
This position is suitable for a hardworking, energetic individual with a passion for editing and strong interpersonal and project-
management skills. This position is based in Toronto.
Qualifications & Skills :
A bachelor’s degree in English, publishing, communications, or a related discipline.
A minimum of 8 years of editing experience in a publishing, financial services, or corporate communications role.
A minimum of 3 years of managerial experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the rules of composition and grammar.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Expertise in editing material written by individuals who have English as a second language.
Excellent project-management and relationship-management skills.
Ability to prioritize projects based on workflow dependencies, competing business initiatives, and time constraints.
Expertise in Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Acrobat.
Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or strong financial knowledge is an asset.
Experience using the BlueMatrix publishing platform is an asset.
Major Accountabilities :
Manage, coach, and provide guidance to three Senior Editors, including providing performance feedback.
Review and edit Equity Research publications (e.g., initiation of coverage reports, analyst presentations, and weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports) as assigned, correcting errors in spelling, grammar, consistency, syntax, and style and following the department’s editing guidelines.
Ensure critical deadlines are met, errors are minimized, and accurate and well-edited research is delivered to internal and external clients in a professional manner.
Liaise with research analysts and associates and the Research Publishing team (editors, desktop publishers, supervisory analysts) to edit research reports and coordinate approvals.
Ensure publications meet compliance and regulatory requirements (e.g., proper source lines, logo usage, and correct disclosures).
Co-ordinate with desktop publishers to fix any formatting issues and ensure production deadlines are met.
Co-ordinate signoff of reports with the supervisory analyst group and the research analyst teams.
Demonstrate superior time- and project-management skills.
Correctly apply document tags and distribute reports using the BlueMatrix publishing platform.
Perform key post-publishing checks (e.g., check third-party vendors and the departmental website).
Train new editorial hires.
Develop and present writing skills workshops for analyst and associate teams.
Proactively solve issues related to the editing or publishing processes as they arise.
Work with internal stakeholders to develop new products, ensuring they meet branding and compliance standards.
Core hours are 8 : 30 a.m. 5 : 00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work is required.
