Responsibilities

Reporting to the Team Manager, Nova Scotia Provincial Blood Coordinating Team (NSPBCT), the Utilization Management Coordinator (UMC) develops and supports the implementation of Transfusion Medicineand laboratory testing utilization review programs in conjunction with provincial laboratories and physicians that are based on evidence and best practice.

The UMC provides written reports on the outcomes of initiatives and the costs savings / cost avoidance achieved. The UMC develops evaluation frameworks and monitors adherence to provincial guidelines through data analysis.

This position involves chairing various working groups and liaising with national and provincial stakeholder groups to optimize Transfusion Medicine andother laboratory testing utilization.

Qualifications

  • Health care professional in a related field (i.e. Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist; pharmacist, Registered Nurse)
  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Masters degree in a health related discipline an asset
  • Current member of a relevant professional licensing body (i.e. NSCMLT, CRNNS, NSCP)
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), Email and Internet
  • Effective problem solving and decision making abilities, above average written and communication skills
  • Well developed organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Innovation, dedication and curiosity to challenge the status quo
  • Knowledge of Transfusion medicine and laboratory utilization an asset
  • Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's license
  • Travel to various sites may be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

    Hours of Work

    Temporary Full Time 1.0 Position; 75 hours bi-weekly

    With an approximate start date of May 27, 2019 and an expected end date of December 31, 2019 (approx. 7 months)
