Based in Markham, the AVP of SPI, Product and Technical Underwriting reports to the Vice President of Specialty Personal Insurance.
This position is responsible for directing and leading Aviva’s Specialty Personal Insurance businesses from an underwriting, product, competitive intelligence, and risk perspective fostering a positive and dynamic work environment that values people and achieves outperforming results.
This role also has a high degree of influence on pricing and technology development.This role has a strong technical understanding of the personal lines P&C industry and leadership vision to take accountability for product and underwriting across the Group, Lifestyle and High Net worth businesses supporting partners across all our distribution channels.
The role provides a channel agnostic and aligned product and underwriting experience while managing key systems priorities underpinned by a strong risk and control framework.
Accountabilities : Supports the growth and profitability of a $1.2B+ portfolioDevelopment and management of a robust technical underwriting and product strategy that supports overall business objectivesDrive execution of key SPI initiatives to support profitable business growthImplement changes that simplifies our business and maximize efficienciesPrioritize technology initiatives including the continued evolution of a Digital solution for brokers / customersEstablish Product / Rate Change PrioritiesLead Lifestyle pricing strategy with Street Pricing TeamEvolve Underwriting standards with National OperationsDevelop appropriate systems, processes, and methodologies to support the long-term success of the businessProduct monitoring and adherence to product development standardsPeople / talent management and team developmentFocus on team building, measuring performance for continual improvement, and continuously reassessing roles and responsibilitiesActively provide coaching and development opportunities and succession considerationsManagement of cost centre expenses and budgetDecision making that impacts company’s top and bottom line, ability to meet plan and distributor relationshipsTechnical analysis, advice, and support for : Pricing, Underwriting & Product Development, Systems, DigitalDevelop and maintain strong relationships with various internal / external partiesQualificationsUniversity degree and / or College Diploma specializing in BusinessAdvance degree and / or professional qualification preferredStrong people leadership experienceExtensive experience in Property and Casualty Industry (emphasis on Lifestyle related products is an asset) with a proven track record of successTechnical Underwriting and Product Management experience including an understanding of the P&C regulatory environmentProject Management or equivalent (i.
