A day in the life of a Chemist SGS Canada :

  • Conduct R&D projects in guidance with supervisor, as assigned in the department by meeting turnaround and quality standards.
  • Participate in production workflow, as necessary by meeting turnaround and quality standards.
  • Solve all day-to-day process and technical problems.
  • Supervise and train departmental staff as necessary.
  • Participate in business development activities to expand business
  • In guidance with the supervisor, develop new methods and work on improving the efficiency of existing methods and Standard Operating procedures as assigned.
  • Conduct sample and food residue extractions related to method developments.
  • Schedule the daily operations of the chromatography instruments such as, GC’s, HPLC’s, GCMS, LCMSMS and ICPs.
  • Ideal Candidate :

  • BSc. degree in Agriculture, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or related field with five or more years of experience in a commercial agriculture or food testing laboratory setting at teamlead or supervisory level;
  • a post Graduate degree or graduate level courses in Agriculture related discipline preferred

  • Ability to lead in accreditation process for lab including, Health Canada, CFIA, ISO 17025, and FDA.
  • Experience in pesticide residue analysis
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 : 1999 and ISO 9001 : 2000 requirements
  • Familiar with official accredited methods such as AOAC, AOCS and USP methodology.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Agricultural sectors (Grain, Meat, Fishery, etc.) is required.
