Join the Finning Canada family, part of the world’s largest Caterpillar dealer. We are currently looking for a dedicated Heavy Duty Field Mechanic - Gas Compression who will be responsible for the field troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of a variety of Caterpillar general line products, based in the Fort St. John.

This position will work a Monday to Friday shift rotation. If you are a safety conscious team player, self-motivated, detail-oriented and possess your Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification with a valid driver’s license, then you are exactly who we are looking for!

Job Description :

Reporting to the service supervisor, this individual will be responsible for the maintenance and overhaul work in the natural gas compression and EPG industry in the field.

  • Perform routine repairs, maintenance and overhauls on natural gas and diesel engines, compressors, generators, and attachments
  • Field and shop service work
  • Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot and repair Caterpillar equipment
  • Perform field diagnosis and field running repairs
  • Utilize Caterpillar SIS and ET daily
  • Complete technical documentation (service reports, warranty, crossover notes)
  • Interact with customers, sales support, and the rest of the Finning team
  • Work with the Service Supervisor and Leadhand on various tasks as required
  • Qualifications :

  • Interprovincial Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a successful recent drivers abstract
  • Safety conscious team player with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with a high attention to detail
  • Completion of Finning S-Levels, Failure Analysis, Machine Electronic Controls, or Tier 4 training would be considered an asset
  • Completion of Caterpillar product courses would be considered an asset
  • Previous Caterpillar general line product repair experience would be considered an asset
  • Team player with good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and contribute positively to a quality team environment
  • Previous CAT gas compression experience and proficiency in the MS Office package would be assets
  • Safety tickets in H2S, first aid, WHMIS, TDG, confined space and fall arrest would also be considered assets
  • ACCEPTING 4TH YEAR HET APPRENTICES FOR THIS ROLE AS WELL
