Confer with management, production, business development and bids & proposal staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
Coordinate and direct Mission System projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of Mission System projects.
Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment.
Direct, review, and approve Mission Systems product design and changes.
Recruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts, and direct the negotiation of research contracts.
Develop and implement Mission System policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department, service, laboratory or firm.
Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates.
Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to clients.
Consult or negotiate with clients to prepare Mission System project specifications.
Set scientific and technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management.
Plan, direct, and coordinate engineering activities, certifying work, and presenting to management teams.
Performance assessments of personnel to be considered in yearly reviews.
Schedule and actively participate in technical design reviews to ensure design integrity is achieved.
Participate in developing and maintaining the related engineering design practices, processes and standards.
Provide the required metrics, reports and performance measures to the Director.
Provide technical support to other areas of the organization including Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Customer Service, Bids and Proposals, and Marketing.
Develop a strong presence across engineering and other areas of the business to maximize collaboration and synergy in an effort to meet project goals.
Watch for new technologies and leadership trends that may impact present and future product development.
Assist Mission Systems Management Team in authoring and implementing ISO 15288 compliant systems and sub-processes as assigned, including systems engineering documents such as CONOPS, Specifications, systems engineering management plans, and integrated master schedules.
Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by the Director.
10 or more years of demonstrated experience in systems engineering on a complex network platform
2+ years in managing complex engineering teams
Ability to collaborate broadly with peers and stakeholders, internally within L3 Wescam, as well as government partners and customers
Excellent oral and written communication skills including a demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a highly performing technical team
Highly motivated and proven ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment
Ability to travel (25%) to customer sites
Track record of being a strong technical contributor across a wide range of technical problems and across multiple developments.
Have shown the ability to build and maintain professional relationships within and outside of engineering.
Understanding of Systems Engineering principals
Strong Project and technical management skills
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of airworthiness, seaworthiness or landworthiness process and approval
Knowledge of various military and industry standards related to airborne, marine and ground systems.
Bachelor of Engineering Degree or equivalent on the job experience
Preferred that the manager has an Architecture Framework certification. (DODAF, DNDAF, TOGAF or an overall AF certificate)
PEng or pursuit of PEng.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Mission Systems Engineering with progressive experience.
Experience in Airworthiness / Seaworthiness / Landworthiness desirable
Experience in Product Lifecycle Management and Configuration Management.
Meets the requirements of the Controlled Goods Registration Program and is eligible for a Canadian
government security clearance
