The YMCA Healthy Heart Program is a community based cardiac prevention, rehabilitation and maintenance program. Medically directed exercise classes will be offered in the communities of New Westminster, Port Moody and Vancouver, as well as virtually through our new Healthy Heart at Home program, in the Fall of 2021, with the possibility of additional classes added in early 2022.
Nature & Scope :
The Healthy Heart Supervisor will provide leadership to the Healthy Heart program, ensuring we deliver high quality programming in our community.
Reporting to the Manager, and working closely with a Part-time Supervisor, this position will support the overall planning, development, oversight and functioning of all Healthy Heart program operations.
The Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising exercise sessions, developing and leading training, supervising and mentoring program staff, and completing all related administrative functions.
Major Responsibilities :
Provide overall leadership and oversight to the development and delivery of the YMCA’s cardiac rehabilitation, prevention and maintenance exercise program
Monitor, evaluate and further enhance existing program standards, on an ongoing basis, ensuring that program design and delivery is in keeping with the latest cardiac rehabilitation best practices and is delivering the best outcomes for program participants
Assist Manager with the recruitment and onboarding of program staff and volunteers, and provide overall leadership, as well as ongoing training, supervision, mentoring and development to the staff and volunteer team
Lead and supervise weekly in-person and virtual exercise classes for individuals with known heart disease and other chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and congestive heart failure.
On an ongoing basis, assess participants’ exercise capacity and provide exercise prescription and recommendations
Provide health education to participants and address any questions or concerns as it relates to their exercise prescription
Respond to medical emergencies and follow medical emergency protocols
Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage of all classes, and provide back-up coverage in classes when required
Ensure the health and safety of all participants, staff, volunteers and property by following YMCA standards, policies, and procedures and ensuring they are adhered to by all program participants, volunteers and staff
Manage inventory of program supplies and medical / exercise equipment
Develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners, YMCA colleagues and program participants
Assist with program office admin functions as needed
Promote philanthropy through the YMCA’s annual campaign and assist with Community Health fundraising initiatives
Other duties as required
Requirements / Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology or Human Kinetics required as well as American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) with Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) OR Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) with Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification
Minimum one two years working in a program leadership / supervisory role
Minimum one two years related clinical experience in a similar program setting
Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, team and relationship-building skills
Proficient computer skills (especially Office 365)
Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle required
Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate (can be completed once hired)
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check / Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
