Job Summary

Major Gifts Manager is responsible for generating philanthropic support from individuals, corporations and foundations at the major gifts level and leading all fundraising activities in keeping with the VON Canada’s fund development framework.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develops and manages major gifts fundraising program.
  • Develops short-term and long-term goals and objectives for on-going cultivation of donor and major gift prospects.
  • Conducts research and develops prospect profiles.
  • Identifies and qualify prospects, create plans for the cultivation, solicitation of prospects.
  • Ensures recognition and stewardship of donors.
  • Solicits major gifts with the primary purpose of maximizing donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Builds a volunteer team to assist with identifying prospects and with solicitation activities.
  • Uses data management system (Raiser’s Edge) to ensure the accurate and timely recording and reporting of data.
  • Works as a core member of an extended fund development team, acting as an advisor on best practices in major gift fund development.
  • External and Internal Relationships :

  • Forges affiliations with VON staff across functional departments and in Regional sites by providing consultation, coaching and support as a team resource within the fund management function.
  • Works with internal / external partners, including community boards, in regions and in functional departments on regional or national projects.
  • Education, Designations and Experience :

  • Post-secondary degree in business, public administration or other relevant field of study.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation an asset.
  • Minimum five (5) years fundraising management experience including proven experience managing a major gifts portfolio as well as experience in planning and executing significant fund development programs and campaigns in collaboration with volunteers.
  • Extensive experience with Blackbaud products is required.
  • Credible expertise in the full spectrum of fund development with strength in establishing and growing Major Gifts Program.
  • Proven track record of attracting, retaining and deepening the engagement of donors.
  • Experience working in an organization with a national / local dynamic.
  • Experience working in the health care and / or community support services sector an asset.
  • Knowledge of fundraising processes, best practices and current industry trends.
  • Must be fully conversant with CRA requirements as they apply to registered charities.
  • Skill Requirements :

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to relate effectively with people at all levels (internal and external)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, professional and personal integrity.
  • Literate in computer programs including the Microsoft office suite, Raiser’s Edge, and Adobe.
  • Others :

  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and / or Child Abuse Register Check may be required,
  • Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the site / region.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required
