Role Description The Great-West Lifeco ( Lifeco ) Strategy team is critical to Lifeco’s ability to navigate and succeed in an increasingly dynamic and competitive environment, which includes changing customer behaviours and distribution trends, technology advancements and adoption, and the shifting global economy.
The Strategy team supports Lifeco and its businesses across Canada, the U.S. and Europe, driving corporate and business unit strategy development, supporting strategic initiatives across Lifeco and selected business unit priorities, and managing the Lifeco Board’s annual long-
term strategy review and planning process. Based in Toronto and reporting to the SVP Strategy, the VP Strategy will structure and lead high priority strategic initiatives across our global business units by contributing recommendations and options based on highly complex analyses and insights in a sensitive and highly confidential environment.
This role will enable senior executives across Lifeco to make critical decisions supporting our vision and growth strategies.
The VP will be a trusted advisor to senior executives providing advice, support and analysis of strategic questions and providing multi-
dimensional financial, strategic, human capital and other insights. Accountabilities : Enterprise-wide Lifeco strategy and business unit strategy : Leveraging extensive external experience and perspectives, the VP Strategy, is accountable for strategic agenda review and monitoring.
Consultation with senior leadership will be anchored in a deep understanding of internal and external factors affecting the organization thereby enabling accurate prioritization of enterprise / business unit goals.
Support the enterprise-wide long-term Strategic Planning Process : supporting development of long-term financial trajectory and performance scenarios for the Lifeco Board and its constituent views.
This role supports and provides the delivery and thought-leadership required to prepare for the most senior dialogue on strategy within the organization.
Consistently and proactively identify organizational risks and respond to global and local strategic questions. This VP, Strategy will look to challenge current thinking through expert diagnosis of business issues and strong communication tactics.
This role will seek to set the agenda for discussion and move the conversation and focus to critical areas not previously considered by leadership teams.
Project / Initiative Leadership and Execution Working closely with the senior business leaders, drive selected strategic initiatives and ensure alignment with overall vision and strategy.
Identify / anticipate opportunities or challenges for Lifeco and / or individual business units and push forward discussions to address risk and opportunities.
Independently lead multi-dimensional complex analysis including financial modeling, profit-pool analysis, scenarios development, productivity and efficiency analysis etc.
Where required, establish net new analytical mechanisms / process and approach to enhance business evaluation capabilities.
Strategic advisor role and development of the team Establish and maintain trusted advisory relationships with key executives and senior leaders across Lifeco by providing sought-
after, in-demand advice and act as subject matter expert in Strategy. Support and respond on a broad range of strategic questions and issues empowered to regularly challenge and escalate issues of material concern to the organization.
Support the professional development of the Strategy team, focusing on core analytical, strategy, and communications skills, elevating the brand of the team and the individual team members.
